Hey - I know we have a few people on here who work in
hospitals. What's the story in your hospitals with capacity and
how many cases you're seeing?

I don't work at a hospital but my wife does as an Surgical Tech with the VA. She told me that they pulled 10 nurses out of the Operating Room and put them into ICU. She also said that admitted a bunch of patients that were positive COVID today and that all surgeries that were not life saving that required an overnight stay have been cancelled.

In addition the things that the nurses who were put into the ICU have said makes me want to hide under my bed, but then again I know that if I get it I'm pretty much dead since I have Asthmatic Bronchitis, high blood pressure, and a history of strokes.

My husband works with the COVID19 patients at the VA. Last week after I went out to lunch with a friend he came home and asked me to start self quarantine again and stop going out the meet people for awhile. He said that they're starting to fill up with COVID19 patients and that the virus is getting bad out there again. He said the second wave is already starting and July will be bad for us.

My spouse is an RN at the VA and said they are starting to fill up. Some of the non-critical units are closing down to free up beds for COVID patients. I was surprised to find that the VA does not have that many beds, despite how big it looks.

Elective surgeries are now being done at the St. Rose hospitals. Mrs CW M.D. is now working extra hours to help the surgeons catch up on the cases that were postponed.

My wife is a social worker there. They had them completely clear out their offices in the event they needed to convert them to hospital rooms while they work remotely.

I did some more of that today. TP is in good supply, though limited to one item per shopper.

While hospitalizations are up per the Nevada Hospital Association, there is still plenty of capacity in southern Nevada hospitals per today's report: 22% of staffed beds are vacant; 18% of ICU beds are vacant; 64% of ventilators are available.

The Nevada Hospital Association should be including a column in their reporting comparing resource utilization this year to last year so we can judge the significance of the utilization percentages.
