Whats wrong with the one I linked? Are you familiar with It?
Electronic controllers tend to be problematic. Even the one I use on very specific applications, I warn my customers that they can give them problems over the analog style controller offered by Fleck w/their Econominder. I run into a lot of older units that the owners think are working fine....until I test and find the water to be hard.

Is there a device that measures the hardness of water that homeowners could have, like my TDS meter?

1st - unless your TDS meter is calibratable against known standards, it's not reliable. For a home RO, you don't need one like I carry, but at least ensure it's got some way of making sure it's reasonably accurate.

As to a hardness test kit - Hach 5B. I personally prefer the test strips for my residential customers to avoid endangering pets/children, but if I posted the link the mods would likely throw fits (even though it'd be to Amazon). But the Hach 5B is 100% reliable.

I always knew it was working because of the way the water felt plus no build up. I could also tell when the Fleck stopped working in this house, but my husband could not. He swore up and down it worked I was like nope you got scammed, again.

Generally, it's not the "Fleck that's not working", but either old resin or new seals/spacers that are needed.

You are welcome to post a link, no mod will have issues with a long standing poster like yourself. It's the newbie whose first post is a link that we ban for spamming. So long as you don't link to your own business we're fine with it. I wish people could see the crap that shows up in the spam filter that only mods can see, crap from Nigeria, India, Pakistan, Vietnam and especially Russia.

As a mod on several other sites (and owner of a few web pages), I can well imagine....

Thanks!

Here's the test strips I recommend:

Thank you. For $11.99 every homeowner should have a pack of these....

Exactly what I tell my customers - "Why pay me for a service call when you can test your own?" Amazingly, some still pay to have me come test and complain about the service call fee..... And when they do, I point to the $70k Ram 3500 sitting outside their house......

Oh - and here's the link to the 5B. Like I said earlier, though - I don't recommend it for homes w/pets or children. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I don't want someone's loved one hurt.

I keep this alternative Hach kit at my homes:

When it is time to replace, I may try the one you recommend instead.
