Spent last few days on the Strip. Hard to miss about half the stores and restaurants haven't reopened which is making the ones open get overwhelmed by a surge of people. Plus Uber and Lyft three times told me no cars were available including at the airport. Gaming tables are overcrowded in the evening with people waiting for spots to open on weeknights. Basically everything that needs people to serve customers seems understaffed pretty badly. It's good news for the economy but I wonder if maybe some of these workers went off and found other jobs. Right now customers probably just happy to be back in Vegas but they won't excuse poor service forever.

We were there a couple days ago and the cabs were lined up at the airport so help out and jump in a cab!

Yeah Uber was borderline non-functional for most of last year. I guess the drivers didn't want to assume the risk. My wife tried to get an Uber a few times and there wasn't any Uber whatsoever available, not one, and after it happened a few times I just decided no matter what time it was, I'd drive her to the airport and just suck it up. It wasn't ideal when she had some super early flight but there was literally no alternative. We started picking up our relatives if they went out of town too because of the same issue.

Based on my last 5 years of experience with The Strip, I just expect terrible service if I go anywhere on The Strip. I expect bad attitudes, uneducated people, rudeness, rip off prices, and often highlighted by people I refuse to acknowledge as even being Nevadans. A lot of them really aren't. They don't know what the Golden Knights are, they have no loyalty to the city whatsoever, they're just here for a few years then gone. It's only sad to me that they're here at all. The casinos and Strip restaurants should start trying to find better quality people as they re-hire because the vast majority of these sourpusses are just godawful.

On the strip, a significant number of the game workers make no attempt to mask how bored they are and how much they dislike the gaming patrons. If you are up at all, they start begging for tips. I had a terrible experience at the Venetian. The Wynn is usually good though. They might be bored, but they try to seem personable. Honestly, you get better service at Red Rock than most strip casinos.

I was at the Rio last week to check in a friend to a suite.

It was crazy there Friday at 5pm. The line to check-in was
100 deep or more. They had insufficient numbers of front
desk check-in clerks and redirected most people to self-serve
kiosks that I guess people had trouble using? The VIP
check-in took me about 10 mins (Platinum and Diamond
members). Another person who drove in for our meeting
also stayed at the Rio. Both complained about valet lanes
being open but no actual valets. My friend was also told that
for bags to get to their room would take upwards of 90 minutes.

I know I was sent an email for expediated check-in but to pick up
the keys, I'd need to access the kiosks which...had the 100 person
line. So yeah, not a well-thought out system from a consumer
usage perspective.

I was at the Rio again last night...hotel closed but casino floor "open".
Had to get another player card since I left mine in another purse...unreal
how long it took them to figure out how to issue me my card from the
pit. (and they pulled out an old address that I haven't used for 18 years...
how is that even possible?!?). Granted, I've been here 6 months and
haven't gotten my Nevada driver's license yet...still on my old state's. I changed
my address with Caesars within their system a few months back. I was
a bit surprised...

Later in the am, went on to the Gold Coast. That place was popping...lotsa people..
Ping Pang Pong open until 3am and busy, plenty of table games open and people
all over. Again, asked for a replacement players card at the table...had it probably
within 3-5 minutes of providing my ID to the pit. Very good service, friendly dealers,
decent waitress service. I was pretty impressed.

The Friday check in line at Rio has been bad for 3 weeks now. Tipped employees don't want to work on weekdays, supposedly dealers getting $5 to $15 per shift in tips. Then on the weekend everyone wants to work, but they can't make up for the massive gap between weekday and weekend crowds and service is still not where it needs to be. I walked through there on a weekday and it was a ghost town, lot more employees than customers on the floor at 6pm.

Need to get rid of tipping completely. An employee should be motivated to work without tips, they just need a decent wage to begin with. It's just a big scam on the economy.

It works in plenty of other countries and service is unaffected.

There's no way this will happen. The companies, employees, and customers are way to used to doing this to break the habit.

There was an attempt several years ago to do this in restaurants in NYC. It quietly died.
