Not only that, but now there’s a massive shortage of new cars due to a lack of semiconductor chip availability, so the rental car companies are unable to reintroduce capacity. Vehicle manufacturers aren’t inclined to offer fleet sales to rental companies when they can’t even keep cars on the showroom floor at full MSRP.

So why are Ford and GMC offering incentives?

Of note for May, Ford is forecast to offer up to $7,500 in cash rebates on the 2020 Ford Expedition and $6,250 on the 2020 EcoSport. Overall, the average rebate across all Ford models is currently $3,200.

Of note, we just tried to reserve a rental for four days in Spokane at the end of August. Lowest price for a compact on Costco Travel was $1050 for the period. We'll just stay home in the pool if these prices hold.

Prices on used cars and new cars have gone up because of the semi conductor shortage.
