The scale of the $4.3 billion complex is huge among Strip resorts — it has more than 40 restaurants
LAS VEGAS (AP) — One of the biggest casino projects ever on the Las Vegas Strip has set a date to open, after more than seven years of planning and building.

Resorts World Las Vegas announced Monday that it will open to the public June 24 and began taking reservations for more than 3,500 rooms at its three Hilton-branded HLT, -1.66% hotels.

The first ground-up resort built on the Strip in more than a decade will open during a pandemic that has upended the Las Vegas economy with business restrictions intended to slow the spread of COVID-19. Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak has set a June 1 goal for 100% reopening of businesses shuttered in March 2020.

The resort is on the site of the former Stardust, an iconic Las Vegas landmark that was the largest hotel in the world when it opened in 1958 with 1,500 rooms. It closed in 2006 and was owned by Boyd Gaming Corp. when its 32-story tower was imploded in March 2007.

Malaysia-based Genting Group, an operator of resorts and casinos around the world, bought the site in 2013 from Boyd Gaming for $350 million.

The $4.3 billion project has been under construction since ....

Much awaited, it's a must see for me. Genting is a world class company so I'm expecting a five star property.

Yes, hopefully. Plus, it's a large property. Like Circa before it. Big gambles opening right now. Hopefully things keep building back to normal!

I thought the Circa was nice. Haven't been to the pool area yet. Virgin was okay. We were there on a Saturday night and it really wasn't very busy.

The Pass -- meh. Better than the Eldorado (what it used to be) but I can't see where they put the $7 million they said they invested. It's owned by the same people that own Railroad Pass, where I have never won a nickel. That place is still a dump.

Resorts World looks interesting. I'm sure it will be nice once it's done. I can see the lights on the side of the building from 13 miles away.

Well, me neither. I’m waiting for mask mandates to end before doing any exploring but I’m looking forward to that time!

The mask mandated has loosened enough that you should be ok with a drink in your hand most everywhere. You don't have to ever drink it. Just walk around with it. You might get an occasional overzealous casino employee who tells you to pull it up between sips but not many anymore.
