Can anyone explain how the disabled veteran tax break work? It looks like I will get $18-20K from the assessed value, does anyone have have experience of how that calculates?

Thanks for the info, if I'm reading it correctly, it doesn't save much on property tax, maybe $700 per year.

Clark County, Henderson, North Las Vegas have slightly different tax rates but averages around 3% of assessed value. Since 100% disabled veteran nets you a $28800 reduction in assessed value it'd be around a $850 reduction. Maybe that's "not much" for you, but that's removing close to 1/3'rd of the taxes on a 300k home!

When I said "not much", I wasn't saying that $700 was an insignificant amount of savings on property taxes, I was thinking that the deduction would get me close to no property tax, so I just have to factor that into the budget when we relocate to the area.

Property taxes are generally low here and depend on the age of the house. Be sure to know the other things that affect your budget, like car registration fees.
