How much is a cocktail these days at a good lounge or nightclub within a hotel like the MGM Grand, The Wynn, Venetian, etc? I guess an example could be a margarita, blue wale, daiquiri, ect.

Last time I was at the Venetian my cocktail was $17. Search the menus where you plan to go. A quick search shows $18 to $22 at Rosina Cocktail Lounge at the Venetian.

I used to buy Macallan 18 for $60/bottle, now it's $360/bottle. No wonder cocktail prices are what they are at bars. $20 for a glass of wine from a bottle that costs them less than $20. Sad that it costs so much to enjoy a drink with your dinner when you eat out.

I've never been in the restaurant business, but I recall an episode of Shark Tank where one of the sharks (Daymond John, IIRC) told the entrepreneurs that the general business model for a restaurant was to do a little better than break even on entrees, and make the bulk of their profit on appetizers, salads, deserts & drinks.

I've heard the same thing. I usually take a bottle of wine with me and pay the corking fee if it's reasonable. I've seen $20-$25 and got quoted $40 recently. That seems a bit extreme IMO.

Yup. One of the reasons restaurants had trouble during Covid as there was a lot less reason to pay inflated booze prices when taking food home.

Thus, a lot of restaurants raised their prices (understandably).

When senior employees retired, we used to get them Macallan 25 or 30 - but that was 20 years ago when a 30 went for something like $300. I haven't seen a 30 in a long time, but 25s are around - but pricey.



The extra import duties on Scotch since 2019 have been revoked recently; I hope it shows up at the retail price.

I am a life long single malt drinker. My favorite is a rare scotch from the Scotch Islands. Used to buy it for very special occasions. Thirty years ago when I was a frequent visitor to England it was 100 pounds a bottle. Now it has gone out of sight.

So instead I now drink Clan McGregor blended scotch. I do not know why by i prefer it to anything else in the rational price range. I will drink virtually any reasonable scotch in a pinch but McGregor is the only one at home. I generally avoid cocktails though on a very good night I may have a Rusty Nail.
