For those who believe that it is also true. No matter where you live.

I'm extremely confused here...I don't really know if at least one public school its good other than the magnets or Bishop and Faith. I need a extra coments about it because my daugther would move back with me and I need to know of a good school for her.

Atech is pretty much just outside of what is called West Las Vegas, its at Simmons and Vegas...

Las Vegas Academy is at 7th and Bridger, it is in Downtown, don't know the exact name of the neighborhood though...

Coronado High School is in Henderson, its in between Seven Hills and Sunridge @ MacDonald Ranch, not really in its own neighborhood...

Shadow Ridge is far Northwest near Gilcrease Orchard, not sure what to call that area other than far Northwest...

Palo Verde is in Summerlin, Pavilion Center and Alta

Parents needs to worry less about where the school is and more about developing their children to be responsible students. My son does not go to the best middle school in Clark County. His school has fights almost daily and there are many student who do not want to be there. Those students that want to be there can and do excel. Almost every middle and high school have advance classes. Those that what to learn do just that. My son makes straight A's, has no fear of going to school and getting beat up. Kids that want to learn will learn and succeed. Of course some schools are better than others, but just going to the "best" school is not the only answer.

I agree with Kalbo, at every school there are even students that don't want to learn and do want to learn...

I heard they can choose their school, for their senior year. A lot of students take the RTC over to Cimmaron-Memorial; because they are not served by the school buses. I know there are some ritzy neighborhoods feeding into Palo Verde, and it doesn't seem to be immune from trouble.

Yep, that's my screen name all this time. You thought I was just an average mom. Although now it looks like I may have to change it to SECTA mom. I agree with what Kalbo said. I do not believe that any high school in this school district has set out to be the worst high school. The best? The best in what? What academic area? Best school to make friends? Best place to play sports to go on to get a NCAA Div. I scholarship? What sport? A NJCAA div. 1 scholarship is actually worth more $ to more student athletes. It is all so subjective.

My oldest went to Basic. My freshman is at SECTA and my 8th grader may go there, too.

I still don't find the right High School...I would like my daughter to attend Bishop Gorman or Faith or other of the private schools but I don't see how can I would be available to afford that huge tuition. I look other Schools finding Shadow Ridge High School and I thought that would be the ending in my search. I found out that a teenager was arrested at Shadow Ridge a couple of months ago and that administrators have difficulties to control teens there. Finding that as much as I like the school because the efforts on the academic, how I'm going to be calm when I know the school has various incidents of violence. Not mentioning that they have cut teenagers smoking "marijuana" as early as the class start. Need more info but where can I get it without judmental comments about kids who want to study, they study here or in Rome. Not fear! I'm just in limbo not knowing what to do....

Demi, perhaps you should'nt be putting your daugther in a school in a large metropolis? Seems like a small-ish town or village high school would fit your needs?

Las Vegas high schools are absolutely no different than other high schools in the country as far as kids go, I know, I've put a kid or two through and have one still in. Kids are kids no matter where you go in this world.

You honestly think you're going to find a high school where some kids DON'T smoke pot at all hours? And drink? And do other harder core drugs? C'mon, now, that goes back even to when I was in high school, and let's just say...it was a longgggggg time ago

I think there is a "greatschools" site that I've seen referenced here, you can look up comments from students and parents on there and see how different schools in the Las Vegas valley stack up.

But if you're going to be really uptight and have to constantly worry, perhaps Las Vegas (or any other large populus area) would NOT be the best choice for your daughters education?

I just found it, here you go....
