I have a job offer in Vegas that I'd like to take and I need to relocate, but I want to keep where I live private. My SS# was stolen and I found all my previous and current home addresses are on my credit report. I'd like to find a place to rent that doesn't submit where I live to anyone or make them simi-public.

It has been a long time since I've rented from a company. What are my options to find a place to live that doesn't do credit checks? I see the AirBnb's and people renting a room in their home as possible options. But I'm not wanting to close my eyes in a strangers house no matter how good the job is, lol. I'm wondering if places will take extra money as security instead?

I did an internet search for "no credit check rental las vegas" and yelp is saying there are a bunch of places, but I think that is just click bait and I'm not sure about it. Nobody seems to answer the phone, lol. It is all done online now it seems?

I don’t know any places that do not do credit checks. However there are some places called 2nd chance rentals that claim to accept bad credit tenants. Perhaps they don’t do credit verifications. Places like that may advertise on sites like www.gosection8.com (many are not in fact section 8 places but LL’s advertise there because they take low credit applicants).

Just an idea moving forward is to use PO boxes for your mail. I've had PO boxes in 3 different cities in the last 15 years and I have found I rarely need to give out my home address anymore. I love the additional privacy.

That is a smart move. But with a rental, they submit my address to the credit people who then put that on my record. So anyone with my stolen SSN (stole it, bought it, etc) can see where I live.

Are there long-term hole-in-the-wall hotels that are extended stay? I've been in a few out in CA and WA, but I don't know where to look in a tourist town like Las Vegas.

Actually it wouldn't. All it would tell them is where you receive mail. Not the same thing. A lot of people who travel a lot maintain a PO box in one place but live somewhere else and have their mail forwarded. Remember, a landlord will probably want to see some ID that verifies your identity (state DL etc). Even if they don't do a credit check, they could still get your address off that, so it could still get exposed to identity thieves.

I would address your concerns with any potential landlords. Your employer in Vegas may be able to help. The Social Security Administration should be able to assist you as well, I would start by talking with someone there. I had mortgages at a few banks that contacted me to say my data had been compromised and they gave me free credit report monitoring.

There are plenty of Identity Theft Protection companies out there, get some advice from one or two.

Good luck, sorry this happened to you.

The simple solution is to lock all 3 of your credit reports. Then no one can view your addresses or pull your credit. You can lift the freeze long enough or specifically for the place you wish to rent. I think regardless, if you're getting mail there (i.e giving credit card companies, banks, etc. the new address) it will be on your credit report at some point. I'm not sure i understand why you're concerned about that, but the above will prevent it.

Locking them prevents new lines of credit, it doesn't prevent people snooping.
