My roof needs to be replaced. I've been reading the pros and cons between Metal and Shingles. My A/C unit is on the roof. Walking on the metal roof can be ruined?

If you aren't careful, you can damage a metal roof by walking on it. Whether it will be ruined or not is another question. Think about it...the roofers needed to walk on it while they installed it! Some parts of the roof are more supported and stable than others.

Most of the roofing material I see in Vegas is tile.

I wonder how long asphalt shingles would hold up in the sun and heat here? I think a metal roof would get very hot.

I'd do lots of research and shop around for a good contractor before putting on a new roof.

I replaced mine 2 years ago. My original roof was brown. I replaced it with white reflective shingles and my electric bill is about $100 per month lower in the summer now. Color matters here! Made more difference than replacing the doors and windows.

Do you live in a HOA? Can't recall seeing homes in HOA's with metal roofing.

The wind here gets pretty wicked.
Shingles are constantly getting blown away
My last house needed a roof. A roofer suggested fiberglass with that snow white fabric on top as a finish.
I lived there for 20 years, never had a problem.

If your house is in a HOA community, you will need to get approval from your HOA for any color change.
