That would depend on what weed it is, they all look different.

Google "weeds in Las Vegas", lots of pictures....

If the HOA doesn't want weeds in the community, that's good. Weeds can be invasive and end up everywhere. The person who spotted the weed in your yard is doing everyone a favor. You can probably just pull it out, roots and all and be done with it. I'd wear a good pair of gloves to remove it. Vegas is #1 for weeds, lol.

HOA can only inspect your front yard, they can not come into your side or backyard if it is fenced or walled and can not be seen from the street.

The best thing to do is ask the HOA what plant species they consider weeds. A "weed" is usually a plant species that humans find annoying, damaging, or can find no good uses for. Often it has invaded an area it isn't native to, ironically introduced by the humans themselves. Most if not all states have lists of what they consider noxious invasive weeds they hope to control or eradicate entirely because they compete for water, damage agricultural crops, poison or cause injuries to livestock, or alter the soil so other more beneficial plants can't compete with them.

Your HOA may be required to comply with an existing city, count, state, or even a national list, or they may have compiled a list of species for themselves. Once you have a list of plants you are required to control or eradicate on your property, you should be able to get photos as well as information about how to get rid of them. Most noxious weeds are extremely tough and rapid growers (which is why they are so successful). Best to get on top of the problem as soon as possible or you could end up spending hours doing backbreaking work or paying someone else to do it for you.

When it comes to HOA's definition of weed isn't usually species specific, they use it as a catch all for any plant that isn't in their approved landscape plan for your property. Many HOA's require you to have them approve all landscaping that is visible from the road, and depending on the area they might have to approve larger changes in the back yard as well.

For gardeners like me its really a PITA, I got rid of my HOA house years ago and moved out to a property in NLV where neighborhood Karens don't get to hassle me about my melons vines climbing into my palo verde trees.

Gads, you've hit a memory of mine when I grew cantelopes in my backyard in the stuff from my compost pile. I had melons the size of basketballs, tons of them, took them to work to give them away. The flavor was out of this world, nothing like those rock hard things at the supermarket.
