Biffer...the feral cat on the patio...has begun to fail. Obviously having trouble with defecating. Hips appear to be no longer working correctly on turns.

So after something past twelve years we may have to capture her. Going to talk to the vet tommorrow about how to proceed. I suspect at this point I can pick her up and shove her in a cage before she realizes that I have turned on her.

But it appears an era is ending. The Admiral and I have tears running down our face as we consider how to proceed.

How in the world can one love a creature who has only hissed at you for twelve years?

It's a hard thing to do but it's a responsibility we have to take. She was yours the first time you fed her so it falls on you to do the right thing for her. I had a similar situation once and know how you feel. Unfortunately, there's no way to make it easy. It just proves you're good people.

Awww poor little kitty.
She had a good life since she met you and your wife olecapt.
You should memorialize her at
Pet Loss Grief Support, Rainbow Bridge, Monday Candle Ceremony,
It's always sad to see the furkids go. But I do believe they go on to a better place, playing happily at the rainbow bridge and waiting for you there when it is your time.

That's a real shame, olecapt, and I am sad to hear the news. 12 is somewhat on the young side for that sort of thing, I would think, as they usually live 18-20 years. A good friend of mine had similar problems with her cat, Beowulf, and the vet discovered he had kidney stones. One very expensive emergency surgery later, and the old boy is still alive and doing well. Fingers crossed for you!
