Can't wait. I'll be 19. Moving from LODI, NJ. Attending UNLV as an undeclared major and I have to find a part time job. I'll be living with my dad who's been there for 4 years already. It'll be a whole new world to me apparently and I really won't know anyone. I plan on going to orientation and some social events that UNLV has in store. I hear the regulars normally avoid the strip? My interests are computer gaming, paintball, and music. I want to take advantage of UNLV's rec facilities to start my first split workout routine that I sought out to hopefully work fine for me.

In NJ, I didn't find myself doing much. My friends{didn't have many} and I would just find ourselves hanging out at night at each other's houses or driving aimlessly because of the lack of things to do at nighttime. A majority of teenagers would just hang at the mall. Is that what they do there too? I've never made a big move like this before, but I know I'm good at adapting to things and I have no choice but to adapt. I'm not sure if I'll be culture shocked because my dad who works at a small town casino told me everything he knew and it sounds typical of what would happen there.

I'd describe myself as a flexible personality. My friends probably see me as reserved, spontaneous, flirty, outgoing at times, open, and ambitious. I hear all breeds of people travel to that area, I'm just a tad bit anxious because it'll be something so new, so big, and life changing.

oh ya, any advice?

Welcome and remember this: you don't change Nevada, Nevada changes you. Freedom of choice and the individual are king here. If you don't like something, fine, but don't demand the same of others.

Keep an open mind, and remember why you left NJ in the first place.

Nj is a cesspool of taxes.. other than that I like it...LOL
Lodi is a nice place, but in Henderson you can play at GVR in a 3-6 poker game and do fine, if you are not an idiot

"individual are king here"

What are you smoking? I like vegas and all but there is no individuality here? Most younger people are fake. Most older people are white collar workers. If you are into independent anything, you will be searching very deep. I will say this, people here in Vegas do keep to themselves where as on the East coast, people seem to be in everyones business but their own. I like Vegas for this reason.

Whataya mean nothing to do in Lodi? You kids are so hard to please these days. Sheesh !

DesertPalm is right about NJ being the king of taxes but there was always something to do and some place to go do it.

If your looking for so much to do, Henderson is not going to provide that either. Less to do in Henderson then LV.

Good luck anyway......

Sun get it straight I said "cesspool"
I am going to miss the culture of living outside the city, but not all the little hidden taxes that pop up from time to time, oh and our new property tax bill just came...$800 higher than last year and the homes are selling for less... Gotta love NJ!

i found more things to do here than back east. since im into pb, the nearest field is only a few miles away, i can start going to unlv's gym, and iv been going to the mall lately(which might get boring fast). right now i just know nobody and that's probably the main problem, but i'm a natural loner anyways.

all kids my age did back east was smoke pot and get drunk(not that that isn't fun, but i have a car now.) i used to have constant want-to-party personality type people around me and i guess thats what made life a little more fun, but i only just got here and i gotta explore.

Here's hoping that you have used the last two years wisely,by having a home/tutor for spelling, grammar, sentence structure and other boring things.

You didn't really just do that, did you? You actually posted to a two-year-old thread just to criticize the spelling and grammar of a teenager??

Seriously?
