My boyfriend and I live on Long Island, NY and we want to move over there to Henderson or Mountain's Edge in a few years. I'm curious how other NYers feel about it over there. We have family friends who moved there from LI and they love it.

Hey Rachael84!

We're from Brooklyn, NY and moved to Las Vegas almost 6 years ago. It is a pretty place depending on where you go, we've lived in Henderson and we have friends in Mountain's Edge and they're both nice areas. We just bought a home in the Las Vegas Silverado Ranch area which is supposed to be a "good area" and were broken into (population is growing and so is the crime). We like it here but we do miss the diversity of NY (museums, zoo, parks in the summer, amusement parks, etc)...if you want any of these things you'll have to drive to Cali. Send me a PM if you'd like more info, have a good one!

Thanks for the info.

I'm on Long Island, so museums and all the diversity you talk about is mostly in the city...I'm from Smithtown, not a very diverse town, lol. So I think Las Vegas is probably more diverse than the town I'm from.

If I have any questions I'll be sure to pm you, thanks :-)

ahh just moved from LI in November,,,it is different,, I am in a lousy situation because I am pretty much unemployed and scrounging around to make ends meet, I would say dont move here unless you have alot of money saved up or know you have a job,,, I have yet to experience the summers(long term) so I cant speak for that,, the winters are about the same as what they are back east(but I think NY is just having a mild winter),,,traffic is alot worse especially around the strip(where I live),,, one thing you take for granted living on LI is the low crime, that is something you dont feel so safe around here,,,, the appeal to this city is the Casinos, I dont know why anyone else would move here, wether I may stay here when my lease is up at the end of May it would be for that chance I may get lucky in the slots or win alot of money playing poker,,,if you dont like Casinos and dont like hot weather, I would say dont move here....and Henderson is a nicer area from what I hear so if you move here I would say live there....

We're from NJ and live in Henderson. Las Vegas has more shopping than NJ had. NJ had the beach. NJ had less traffic. NJ had more Jews. NJ had nicer ppl. Las Vegas has newer homes.

The Forum Shops at Caesars, the Fashion Show Mall, or the Shops at the Venetian will make you think Short Hills Mall was a redneck flea market.....lol.

Different kinds of Malls but I agree. Galerie is comparable to Short Hills if I remember correctly.

I didn't specifically say malls, did I? One difference is that in Las Vegas, it is much easier to get to power centers as well as there are more power centers in LV than in NJ. I was in NJ in August, they demalled a mall to turn it into a power center, I don't think that a Target, Sears, and Value City center was a great power center compared to some we have here like the Mission Plaza, Rainbow Promenade/Cheyenne Commons/Best in the West, or the Best of the Boulevard. We prefer to shop at power centers more than malls, they are more convenient and have better stores, some of them now, even have dept. stores, like the Loma Vista Plaza, Grand Canyon Plaza, or the Nellis Crossing.
