Private trucks don't have to stop at weigh stations, but if there are any doubts ask U-Haul or whoever you rent it from. You do have to stop at the State Agriculture Inspection stations, so it's a good idea to put the house plants, and those veggies you bought at that produce stand in Oklahoma, on last so you can get to them in case they want to see them. Otherwise you could be unloading the truck out on the highway. The only one I know of if you take the southern route is at the AZ/NM border.

Oh, I see you're coming from SD so CO might have them but I don't remember seeing any on the northern route.

The weight stations are for commercial 18 wheelers to keep them on the straight and narrow to prevent overloads. Depending on the axle spread, they can carry up to 50,000 lbs. What the others previously have said is right on. Driving a 4 wheel rent-a-truck carrying a few thousand pounds would throw them into such a tizzy, you might encounter an employee trying to recover from the shock so much he dots every "i" and crosses every "t" to appear he knows what he is doing. He would probably figure he dozed off the day they covered rent-a-trucks in DOT weight school.

This is so very true. Nevada doesn't seem to believe in rest stops. That sucks because outside the city some of those roads go on forever with out ever seeing life. Truckers need a place to rest.

But I dont read about many truckers or motorists falling asleep at the wheel and crashing here. Instead they just crash for fun.

I once read an article in the RJ that explained why NV dont want rest stops. Just ol hogwash dished out by the good ol boys. Im going to try and find that article in the RJ archives. That might be an interesting post for this thread.
