The strip hotels got super greedy in the past few years and tourists and conventions had enough. $400/night for any room on the strip in January because of CES? Left a very bad taste in everyone's mouth and now Vegas has created a very bad image as an expensive place to go.

Agreed that Vegas needs to correct that quickly and get back to being the ultimate value vacation.

I have said it before, and I hear it from my clients all of time that it is getting just too expensive to expo here. People are scaling back their booths to offset the expense. What is worse is that some of the bigger shows such as CES are looking to other cities. If we lose the Consumer Electronics Show, that will hurt a lot of convention support companies.

Dubai already has a second CES show.

Or what about those 99 cent Shrimp Cocktails.

The old Westward Ho used to have a champain fountain that ran all day and you just stuck your glass into the falling champain for all the free drink you can muster.

There was chatter about the CES moving due to the high cost here. Shame on the casinos for raising prices just for that weekend. I dont think that show is going anywhere.

You'd think there would be lots of bargains out there during these times but hardly anybody is offering discounts for anything pertaining to Las Vegas. Someone has got to budge and make Las Vegas the most "affordable" destination once again...

Like the old days, when rooms and meals were so affordable, the tourists could spend more money gambling....

Corporate America hit the Strip and it will never be the same...
I miss old Vegas for sure.

CES has a contract with the LVCC for a few more years. After that, who knows.

Not necessarily, but the price of a "nice" room at places like MGM Grand or Paris should be about $79/night on off nights and maybe $129 during busy periods. When even the moderate properties started thinking they could get $249 and the high-end ones $550, that's where the trouble really began.

Gotta disagree with you....having stayed in nice hotels in NY, San Diego and Denver [as well as a TON of roadside motels] I really don't think we should price ourselves below them...

A hundred bucks a night [during the week] in San Francisco will get you cockroaches.
