Yea we traded in those jug handles for urban interchanges rather then efficient cloverleafs here. What a joke. Rotaries? Nope. Rotaries are in New England. Jersey has circles. Most of them have been taken out. They have been deemed functionally obsolete by the FHWA for 50 years now. But no one told Summerlin who seems to love them.

Jersey also invented the Jersey Divider. The cement barrier that so many people love to run into. They have no room to expand their roads so they invented that divider to save space. Now most states are using it.

Down da shure we hung out at the Stone Pony always hoping to run into Bruce. Never did but most anyone you ask has.

Ahhhhh da good ol days. I dont miss it though.

Yup, he was from Newark. I've been to the airport, and thru there on a Greyhound bus back in '82. I'd love to go to Coney Island of the Fourth of July to see the Nathan's contest. Joey Chestnut won again this year with 66 Nathan's hot dogs in 12 minutes.

The Vons near me sells hot dogs for charity for $1.50. They've dad ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, relish, and jalapeños to put on them. I talked them into having onions as well, and yesterday I bought the a jar of Kruegermann sauerkraut, so that they can serve proper hot dogs.

Took the hubs to Jersey back in Feb, he was born there but has been in FL since before he was old enough to drive. I loved watching the panic on his face while navigating a circle. Even more I loved watching the awe on his face while he was trying to catch the snowflakes on his tounge. It was a nice visit but I'll order my saltwater taffy online and visit once a year. Vegas here we come! (8 days and counting!)

I just hope you can be happy as you think you can here. LV can be a cruel place. Many came here looking for paradise and lost everything. Many have succeded as well. Either way this city can grow an algee in your open wound.

There is something unique about it. You either love it or hate it. I meet far far more who hate it. Some are newbys. Some are veterans. Right here on this very forum you can visit any city and almost never find people going in and bashing their city. We all know this happens in the LV forum on a daily basis. Why? Does it mean anything?

Stay away from gambling. Arrange your driving off peak hours. Live in a safe area.

Gambling has gobbled up many otherwise good normal people. The driving habbits here, you aint seen nothing like it. A quick glance of the center dividers where you will see more tire marks then on the road is a good hint as is the cost of car insurance.

You sure do have a better chance of not being a victim of crime if you can live in a so called safe area. Guards and gates dont make it safe. Extra cops dont make it safe, they dont even respond to many calls here. If its your turn its your turn.

I wont even go into the school and health care problems also unique to here.

So when I hear people saying the things you do I am cautious. I have seen your story so many many times only to have the dream backfire. Getting started here is tough. It was tough during boom times as employers were very cautious to hire a new LV implant. Its even tougher now as unemployment is at its highest in 14 years in LV.

I hope you beat the odds here because they are against you, especially in this horrible recession. From the first day you came into this forum and got yourself beat up a little bit you are pretty liked around here now.

I wish you luck. I really do.

We've had this conversation before, I appreciate your concern and thank you for the luck. It's also nice to hear that I'm liked around here. I'm sure we will be okay, the hubs got a great reference from the president of the Budweiser distributor here which should help get him in the door in any beverage warehouse. I haven't worked at all since Christmas because work is that hard to come by here so it can't get worse than not working at all as that is the worst. I know it will take me at least 2-3 years at a small clinic like Massage Envy to even think about applying for a position in a strip spa. I plan on working full time in a retail or administrative job while working part time massage. $8-9/hr is fine with me. I haven't had health ins in more than 2 years so this will be no change for me either and as far as schools are concerned my kids live in NJ with their dad and will only be in LV 1 month out of the summer. We have a casino here and I get boared to tears gambling and I've told the hubs that if I catch him spending more than $50/week gambling I'm shipping him right back to Florida to live with his mother! (ha, ha!) If the hubs and I make $9/hr each at 40 hr wk jobs we will be bringing in what he was making by himself. I fully believe that my positive attitude alone may give me that extra edge over the person next to me applying for the same job. Thanks again for your concern and wishes of luck but I KNOW we will beat the odds!

Desert, in response to your earlier post to me...

Either way this city can grow an algee in your open wound.

I'm curious desert...when did I say or imply that I had an open wound? A move like this planned for more than 2 years (as I have told you in the past) would not indicate an open wound.

So when I hear people saying the things you do I am cautious.

What have I said that has made you cautious? Have I not shown to you in previous posts that I don't expect to make it rich quick, or ever for that matter? What have I said to make you believe that I will get there and immediatley move into the ghetto and gamble away all of my savings?

Getting started here is tough.

Well, DUH! STARTING OVER THE WAY WE ARE ANYWHERE IS TOUGH. I left NJ 8 years ago heading for Florida. We had no plan, no idea where we were going to live, and $400 in our pockets with no idea if we would find work or how we would eat each day. I had some real rough times in the beginning of that move, even ended up in 2 different homeless shelters and at one point living in an abandoned airstream travel trailer with no electric, no running water in the winter. I cooked on an open campfire daily, buried my "waste" and cleaned up with cold water we got from a neighbors hose outside in the winter, I lived like that for 6 months before being beaten and ending up in a domestic violence shelter. That was my rock bottom, I can handle just about anything hun!

While I do very much appreciate your concern I have been steaming about your last comments to me since I read them. I really thought we were finished with you trying to discourage me from a well thought out and planned move to Las Vegas and now 8 days before I leave and almost 3 months from the first time you bashed me you start all over again? I truly do like you, and I love reading your posts, but give me a break already! I have a great husband with family out there and we will NEVER have it as bad as I did when I first moved to FL because I can always go home to NJ or back to FL anytime I need to.

Not only am I sure we will be ok, I have already contacted Pilot Travel Centers on Craig Rd. I was a shift supervisor here in FL for Pilot for 2 years. They have advised me to check in when I arrive because they are always looking for experienced people. I am also rehirable through Circle K stores which I spent a while working for here in FL and they are always looking for people with experience. I also spent 2 years in a call center for Cingular Wireless and there are plenty of call centers out there which are advertising jobs like HSBC and Ford Motor Credit. I am not some kid with zero marketable skills! I am VALUABLE to many companies for many reasons! Have I proven to you yet that I should be able to find work out there and won't fall flat on my face? Or were you just looking for someone to pick on again?

All that said, I will again thank you for your concern and you words of good luck. We leave FL on the 13th unless the hubs gets tired of sitting around the house those last couple of days in which we might leave earlier. We expect the trip to take 4 days because I don't drive, and the dog can't handle more than 8 hours in the car without a panic attack! We will be there no later than the 17th or 18th and I plan to be at the next DDO. Now smile pretty and admire my determination and gusto. In 1 year when I am still there and going strong I expect you to buy me a drink to apologize.

Default Talk to a broker

Find a good broker in Nevada. Brokers work with multiple carriers and each carrier handles pre-existing differently. Some will auto-decline, some rate up (increase your premiums), some will exclude that particular condition and some may add a seperate deductible.

The key is to look around for a GOOD broker who already knows how each company will handle your condition. Good luck!

Yikes !!!!

I never attacked you. I was stating my own observations. If anything I was suggesting you watch those traps that the average Joes fall into. You wrote a nice post and 3 hours later your steaming. I dont get it. Im on your side girl...honest !

Slowww down.

I admire you so for what you went through in the Airstream days. It may not be nice to wish this on anyone but sometimes I wonder if everyone should go through what you did just once. Some of us go to other threads on finance or economy or politics. There are people in there who brag how wealty they are and try to convince us there is no recession. Because they dont feel it.

Same thing with a major sickness. I will never forget the day that ENT asked me what that lump in my neck was. Those who take life for granted need to get a good cancer scare so they can reevaluate life. Mine wasnt a scare. I had the big C. I survived and it made me see every side of life.

Your doing ok. I ain't putten you down at all. Jeez. If I get a job lead for you I will be the first to hook you up. I have already done it for others in this and another forum and will do it for you just the same. Thats who I am.

Once again.....good luck in the big move.

Ok...so I admit I ocasionally get a little oversensitive...My family is driving me CRAZY and I can't get away from them soon enough...you would think that I would be excited about the fact that I'm heading to Disney World with the family (mom & dad, sister, niece, and my husband) in the morning but no, I HATE the idea and don't want to go...besides the fact that our furniture did not sell and we're out $2000 that we were planning on having...my parents are divorced and my mom insited on this little family reunion before I move so dad flew in from Jersey yesterday...forget the fact that I have to be in Tampa for a wedding for 3 days this week and forget the fact that I have a house to finish packing up...dad is leaving FL 2 days before I move...I can't take the stress of trying to entertain family who insist on me spending as much time in their disgusting, filthy house while trying to finish up my final details! 4 days in the car with a dog who has panic attacks and won't sleep in the car at all...I am looking forward to my life when we get there, but am very stressed about the next two weeks...I seem to have to apologize to you a lot...SORRY!! In the future I'll try to leave the rants for my blog...
