Back in NJ there was a law in place that said to be a cop there was a minimum height requirement of 5' 10". Well there is no such thing as a 5" 10" Puerto Rican so that left them out of luck if they wanted to be a cop. So they like every other so called minority sued and won. The minimum height requirement was lifted for good.

Now take this bearded guy. He is not a minority with a handicap. I do believe there already was a ban on facial hair in place. So then how did he get hired in the first place? Now after he was hired, how long was it before some one said boo?

This whole thing smells of more corruption. The only cop force in America who is their own entity with no boss. Not the Mayor, not the Council. They are there own boss with no one to answer to. It's
despicable how they opperate.

Good thing I read the article first....

"The detective said his religion did not conflict with his job in the beginning, but he has become more observant in recent years."

Bingo. Textbook someone has found an increase in faith, and now must go all maniacal (sp?) That's all it is. He wasn't orthodox when he joined the force, and now he's realizing that he has a conflict of interest.

Where do you get this stuff? It is the standard County Sheriff which is used in 90% of the USA. The Sheriff is elected...as is true in 90% of the USA. The Sheriff reports to the people who elect him....

The current Sheriff was appointed. Looking back through history, since the first LV Sheriffs office was established in 1909, all the Sheriffs were appointed up untill Bill Mott which was the last appointment in 1931. All of them served multiple terms by their own choosing. In 1942 was the first public election of the Sheriff.

In 1961 the election process was broken again by Ralph Lamb who was apointed Sheriff dispite public outcry. He served until the consolidation of the LVPD with the Sheriffs Dept in 1978. Since then Moran, Keller and Young were elected but the current Gillespie was appointed by Young just like the good ol days.

What does the future hold?

How soon they forget...you don't remember how it was going to be the big election...the millionaire helicopter guy against the local but casino endorsed cop? And then petered out when nobody liked the helicopter guy?

Now stop rewriting history.

Not sure what you mean. Who on earth is the helicopter guy? My history lesson was written word for word from the official site of Nevada Sheriffs Dept.

Dont question it. Just sell my damn house !!!!!

Im teasing ya. You know that.

It was fun reading the Sheriffs history though. Most seem to have all made some major change they made that shaped LV's history. All but Young. What a phony flake he was. Oh..except to raise our sales tax so he could give all his cronies nice big fat raises.

The Helicopter guy was the one that just went BK and left a TON of students all paid up with nowhere to go and learn....and he didn't seem to care....

NOW as for Ralph Lamb....there are as many opinions of Ralph as there are residents of Clark County....mine happens to favor Ralph.....many many many years ago, there was a large group of Bikers that had decided to come in and take over Las Vegas.

Ralph and a deputy drove out to Whiskey Petes to the stateline [in the middle of a dry lake bed]....parked the partol car across the hwy and waited[with shotgun in hand]. Approx 200 bikers showed up...couldn't get around the patrol car....Ralph told em to turn around....they said no.....without another word Ralph blew the front fork off of one bike with his shotgun.....199 bikes turned around and went back to California.

Ralph lost the election to a Lt from Vice by the name of McCarthy [probably not mentioned in the Sheriffs site] McCarthy was the one that brought every hooker and pimp he could find into Las Vegas to PROVE that Ralph let them be here....it worked and Ralph was unseated....McCarthy didn't last very long after that.....a TRUE slimeball.

The saying was the "Ralph never took a DIME that didn't first benefit the County"

Yes McCarthy was mentioned on the Sheriffs site. And it said pretty much just what you said.

But back to the helicopter guy. I still dont have a clue. How long ago was this? I better look it up. You mean the guy who took deposits from all those people expecting a nice vacation then he disapeared?
