An orthodox Jewish detective has won his suit to wear his beard at work, based on religious belief. So, a Ratsfarian at Metro should be allowed to smoke pot at work? Native Americans should be allowed to use peyote on the job?

Beards are entirely different from marijuana or peyote.
Whats the matter, Sheriff? Do you have something against beards or Jewish people? I have a bushy beard, so you must hate me. BTW, for the record, I'm Catholic.

I dont have a problem with him wanting a beard. My problem is he knew the rules before he took the job and now he wants to change them. On the other hand he had the beard for quite some time and just now Metro decides they dont like it?

This case was a "First Amendment" issue. A belief one has to answer to a "higher power". How can anyone deem the practices of one group more valid than anothers'? A simple note from any quack MD can assure one can wear a beard, smoke pot, be certified as handicapped, or just about anything else.

He is currently working in "quality assurance", probably a Mon-Fri, 9-5 office job. Wouldn't his day of sabbath be from sundown Friday, to mid-evening Saturday night? And, for some reason, he is quoted as saying, he would be just as happy to wear a baseball cap as a yarmulke. Even strip clubs in LV hold their patrons to a higher dress code.
