Hi, just a quick question about the cost of house insurance in LV. What is the typical/average premium on a $200k home (ballpark). Back home in canada my $500k house is about $800/year to insure.

$800 sounds like the right ballpark. Depending on deductibles, types of coverage, it may be +/- a couple hundred bucks.

I pay close to $800.00 a year for my residence..and it's not worth $500,000 (anymore) There are also so many variables, it's hard to compare apples to apples. For instance, you might have different choices for deductibles, liability limits, special riders to your policy for contents, etc..

It pays to shop around. I would probably be able to get a little better rate with another insurance company...but we've had the same company (Farmers) and the same agent for over 20 years now...and well, you know. We just hate to change it all of a sudden. They are probably on the "high" side as far as cost goes.

Most companies give you a better rate if you combine your house and auto insurance together...sometimes up to 20%.

thanks - i just wanted to make sure it wasn't wildly out of line with what i pay here. i know things like house taxes and auto insurance can really vary in different parts of the country.

$800 seems a bit high to me. I pay around $600 a year and my home was worth around $350K when I originally bought and insured it. I've been with the company only 3 years but they do cover all 3 of my cars as well ($350 a month for all 3). On a $200,000 home, depending on the age, coverage, condition, insurance company, etc., I would say between $500 and $600 a year is reasonable.
