I got my brakes (pads, rotors,& shoes I think lol ) done a week before I left Ohio in July. When we rolled into Vegas 1 week later they were squeeling bad! I thought it had to be because of brake dust or something, because I'd just gotten them done! Now the brake light is on and my brakes are going all the way to the floor!!! I'm soooo annoyed because I spent over $100 just 2 months ago on brakes!!

Can anyone suggest a place that's honest and moderately priced near Alta/Durango??? Not sure which side of town that is.

what kind of car is it?

if its going all the way to the floor it sounds like the master cylinder went out/brake fluid leaked out.

you said you changed rotors/pads and shoes..so it shouldnt squeek unless it is brake dust which is common. but like you said the brake pedal goes to the floor and thats usually the master cylinder or somewhere theres a leak maybe by the rear brake wheel cylinders (you said shoes,so the rear im assuming is drums) or by the front caliper...you also mentioned the brake light is on which is a strong suggestion that you might not have any brake fluid, which again suggests that you might have a leak somewhere.

hope this helps you when you actually find a descent mechanic.

Seconded on when they replaced the calipers they didnt bleed them out right, or you busted a brake line.

Fill your brake fluid reservoir, pump the brakes about 100 times, then see where the big puddle is.

If you can find a mechanic in a small town, I have found that they tend not to ********* because if they do word travels fast in a small town, and it would put them out of business.

I go to Doctor Auto at Ann/Simmons. They have a location at Craig/Rancho, they are pretty good and won't try to upsell you unneccesary work like Goodyear/Big O.

im going to bet you have rusty brake lines (you can thank ohio for that..) make sure they are replaced the correct way with lines, not rubber hoses..

I have to agree with airics,if it is the brake lines (hard line metal) do not replace them with rubber lines.

In racing in a race track or Hard driving in the streets with HEAVY braking with stock brake lines that are rubber...once the temp goes up on the brake fluid it causes the brake lines to heat up also and expand causing the spongie feeling or brake loss like your pads are not grabbing..for short the expanding rubber hoses causes less pressure to push the brake fluid into the calipers or the drums. thats why racers install braided brake lines. well this is just one example of why we have brake fade.

Ever experience driving hard all day and using the brakes hard, maybe on a hot day?,then you feel like your brakes are not working? Then you park your car and and a few hours later or the next day when they are cooled off, the brakes are fine again? thats what brake fade is.

Vegas heat and expanding rubber brake lines....you do the math.

I went to auto zone and they checked my brake fluid and said it was dry. I purchased some fluid they put it in I pumped my brakes and my brake light went off and I was stopping fine the rest of the day. However I still plan to take it to a mechanic.
