I am interested in learning more about the local trails in the area. I have heard great things about the trails at Red Rock mentioned on other threads here and we actually went on a short one located in a neighborhood by MacDonald ranch off Horizon Ridge. (great view of the valley :-) I am wondering where some other ones are located. Especially ones that are in or close to Henderson.

I am a beginner so I don't need anything advanced although I can see this developing into a favorite past time now that I live out here. In Lieu of that, I was also wondering if there were any sort of hiking groups or communities that I could check into. It would be nice to meet other people that are interested in this too.

Hi!!

There were lots of hiking trails at RR. I know you said Henderson, but it really only took us about 20 mins or so. It was also cooler there.

Check out www.meetup.com for all sorts of groups in all areas of interest! I would love to start hiking but my husband does not have good knees-old football and hockey injuries.

Let me know if you find any good ones~good luck!

Someone posted this in these forums a while back, and I bookmarked it. It's a pretty good site -

That is a fantastic site. Answered a lot of questions I've had over the years and never found an answer. I almost donated. Maybe if I was still able to hike...

I read that Henderson has something like 32 miles of biking/trekking trails? Something like that, I would have to find the source again.

Is that true? Anyone ever hike/bike on them? Are they within populated areas, or on the outskirts away from homes? I am kinda curious about them.

This isn't a hiking trail but today I went checking out the abandoned mines off Fort Apache just north of Warm Springs in the Southwest part of town. I don't know if I'd necessarily advise going into the mines or going alone as it seems there are a lot of people who ride their trucks up there, do graffiti, drink cheap beer, and God knows what else. But once you get to the top of the hill, you have a fantastic view of the Las Vegas valley that is worth the hike.

yeah....exactly as you said. sometimes i ride my mtb up there (it tends to get shaded quickly during the summer so it is a little less hot).
