I have looked at soooo many homes w/ pools or community pools and there is always something I do not like about the home-price, layout, size, location, etc....
If I choose a home without a swimming feature, are there plenty of public pools out there? Are they attached to a rec. center? If so, how much do they generally run for a year membership for a family of 4?

Also, is the Desert Shores area nice? Or the area right below it off of Lake Mead? How about Peccole Ranch or the Lakes? You can probably tell, I spend way to much time looking for homes and I keep discovering new areas of town.

I would like to move out there over Spring Break, so I am starting to get desperate to find the right home.

Many of tracts have swimming pools. Particularly true of the smaller home tracts. Almost always gated. One hint is a high HOA fee.

Summerlin has a couple of nice pools open to residents. Desert Shores has a nice beach lagoon pool open to residents and very popular.

There is a large and popular public pool on Durango just north of Cheyenne.

The sports clubs generally have indoor pools with year round access.

Summerlin, Desert Shores, The Lakes and Peccole Ranch are all generally very nice. The area south of Desert Shores and across Lake Mead is Summerlin. Each have a couple of tracts somewnat overrun by renters. If you see a large selection of pickups on a block check for renter population.

The schools in all four areas are generally quite good.

If you really like swimming, there's nothing like having it in your own yard. It's just not the same if you have to pack everything up and go to the pool.

Then there's multi tasking. I can cook dinner, do laundry, and swim at the same time!

Spring for getting it in your backyard. Personally I find community pools to be disgusting. They are like big bath tubs. You come home from work and everyone is down there "cooling off" and "washing up." They have all their kids in there essentially bathing them. Yuck. No thanks. That type of thing grosses me out. Remember, that water washes his buttt crack... do you want it splashing on your face?

Spring for your own pool!!!

Actually redwingfan and I agree on this one. I personally would not live in Vegas or any SW place without a pool. It makes the heat livable.

Then again I scuba dive and snorkel a lot. I learned a long time ago that all that funny looking gunk you see floating in the crystal clear water above the reef...is fish sh*t. And there is a whole lot of it. After a while you even get to know which sh*t goes with which fish.

In comparison the likely stuff floating in a LV public pool just does not come up to the same level...and no chlorine on a hawaiian reef.
