My power bill runs upwards of $250 a month in the middle of summer, but I am in a 1900 sq ft 2 story house. Water is usually relatively inexpensive, maybe $30 a month. I am kind of guessing though as I don't make out the bills.

Once you find a particular place to live you can call NV Energy (NV Power) to get property specific monthly averages. It works well. I live in a condo (highrise) and my highest bill in July was $126.00. My average with NV Energy high to low is $65.00 a month.

We found the monthly power bill plan is best for us too. No surprises that way. Ours is about $130 a month for 2400+ sq ft.

Sales tax varies form county to county, but probably the only county you'll be buying anything in is Clark. It's 7.75% here. It's as low as 6.5% in some of the cow counties. New Sale tax Rates (http://tax.state.nv.us/New_Sales_Tax_Rate.htm - broken link)

What kind of stores do you have in mind? It runs from the most expensive stores in the world to several dollar stores and everything in between. Las Vegas is a shoppers paradise.
