I haven't done Fremont street for new years eve yet. It's very crowded. Think sardines, but thousands of sardines.
The Strip is worth it if you never tried it yet for NYE. The fireworks can't be beat. Although this year, they are shooting them off from the ground, not on top of the hotels like before. So it might not be as spectacular as previous years.

I personally prefer Fremont St....[maybe cause I work there] there are crowds....but not as bad as the strip. There is entertainment [this year tho its coing to be 'tribute bands' [Queen and several others....] Because there has always been a charge to get onto the street, it has kept it reasonably clear of panhandlers, pickpockets etc....[they had to raise the price of a ticket to get in] Give it a try....you might find a GREAT alternative to "the Strip'

Where can we verify that the fireworks will be fired from the ground? That would stink. Many many people watch it from a distance which gives other businesses a boost and reduces crowd problems near the strip.

What are they gonna do, fire them into the walls of tall buildings? I know roof top firings can potentially be dangerous, but its worked for so long. Yes, we had a fire this year, but they were not following regs. Give us roof top fireworks. I wanna watch them from a distance.

Thank you. Rep up. Well I'll be darned, progress wins(?) another one. Oh well ruins my plans. And that night is our anniversary too. Guess we'll have to provide our own fireworks, even at our age.

Maybe we can find out which 'parking garage' upper levels will be used and be a little ways away from those.

Oops, wait a minute. My wife just said she doesn't care about seeing their fireworks. She wants to go to Red Lobster and then whatever. So, we'll see yas there.

Would it be safe for a Single Female to go to the strip on New Years Eve. Not a youngster but a 60 year old female. Would love to see everything but concerned it might not be safe

Yep in my mind I am. To the world I might have a considerable few laugh lines Just curious if it was safe to go and if the crowds are orderly or if it is just a bunch of drunks.

It is a calm crowd. It is generally pretty cool and that tends to keep a damper on things. Cops everywhere. Casino Security everywhere. A bit boisterous at times but that is about it.

As I said we stay at a strip hotel to avoid having to get a car down there. Note that it is standing room only. The casinos pulll all the chairs and bar stools out. Only place to find a seat is in the restaurants.

Are room rates really down for NYE this year or sky high.
