Tuscany is a good place all around (eat, sleep, drink, gamble). It's cheap and lots of coupons/deals. Ellis Island is around the corner and has great karaoke, $1.50 home-brewed beer, loose slots, and cheap eats that are tasty. I liked Cannery off E. Craig and Rampart in Summerlin. Both have 2 for 1 coupons for all their restaurants, including the buffets (comes out to about $12 for 2 people to eat).

Personally, my favorites are the Orleans, the South Point and the Suncoast.

The Orleans has great food, a lot of non-gaming activities and some of the nicer rooms on Las Vegas and is a good place to house out of town guests.

The South Pointe is also pretty similar to the Orleans.

I really like the sports boos at the Suncoast. It is really well lit, friendly staff and a great place to hang out.

Default The Western/lower Fremont Street

I gamble twice a year as it generally bores me to death! But, twice a year, I lug my heavy twice-a-year supply of pennies and I head to the Western Hotel & Casino where they still have the old-fashioned penny machines, where you can laboriously put them in one by one. Hey! It's good exercise!

After about a half hour, I pray and pray and pray that I don't win anything as all I really want to do is get rid of these useless pennies ASAP, and then hightail it home.

But it never seems to work out that way. Last two times I was there, I won $13 and another time $15. I'm just about due for another trip down there, and I hope they haven't done away with those machines in the mean time.

Interesting crowd of people, as always, a lot of people from that street of broken dreams, as I call lower Fremont. Great people entertainment!

I always win when I go to the Orleans, last month I won $10,000 on a $1 slot machine. I only put in $60.

We stayed at the South Point in Feb. 09 and it was very nice. The rooms were large and comfortable and it was an easy on and off the Interstate for traveling downtown. Food was good. People were very nice.

Just my two cents regarding the Orleans. I stayed there one time for a class reunion. On one of those days there was a line of migrant workers in line for the cashier's cage waiting to cash paychecks. Sad thing is that these people were not cashing checks and leaving, they were staying to gamble. The Orleans offers free check cashing knowing that many will stay to gamble instead of taking money home for themseves or their family. That left me with a negative feeling towards the Orleans. I would never stay there again.

Most of the casinos are like that.

I am sure that is the case. I love Las Vegas but this is the downside. One would hope that all who live/work in Las Vegas could exercise restraint. I just think that the casinos should take the high road. I know from a business stand point that does not make sense but from the stand point of the "greater good" it is reasonable.

Bugbully is correct, every casino we go into and we cash chips at the end of the night usually has someone cashing in a payroll check. I can't say for certain that they are using the cash to gamble with, but I can say it happens at every casino in town.

The best locals casino hands down is the M. I am surprised it has not been mentioned.

The M Resort Spa & Casino Las Vegas
