Specifically, is there anything to be done to reduce the powder such as extra caulking around the windows? Or is this stuff gonna come in anyway via the normal breathing of the house.

Humidity played no part in our decision to move here. Well, maybe the really wet kind that came with hurricanes.
You said something about humidifiers. These can be the source of a heavy white dust particularly the ultrasonic ones. If these are not built ins fill them with distilled or RO water and see if the problem goes away.

Betcha...does not sound like dust to me.

Our water is reionized. Our humidifiers have filters.

I turned all 3 off today and dusted. I intend to leave them off all weekend. I will report back Monday AM. I'll also let you know how bad my allergies get over the weekend. Now go play...its Friday.

Maybe they are sprinkling cocaine down from the sky, so that people will be happy and just keep on gambling

Ridiculous. This is how internet hoaxes get started.

We don't have 1-10th the dust we used to have because it is so built up now there isn't much loose sand anymore unless you're right next to construction site. And even then they have the county air police to contend with.

If you are running three humidifiers ─ WHY? You don't need them and they are putting out fine particles of particulates that are 1000 times worse for you than the unhumid (inhumid? non humid?) air.

There should be less dust out there, now that construction has dropped off.

FWIW, my brother says his allergy problems became much worse after moving to LV.

OK, test is now complete.

We have eliminated the white stuff.

The culprit, as predicted by OleCapt, was 1 electrostatic style filtered humidifier. The other 2 humidifiers have paper filters that eliminate the expelling of particles.

The culprit was purchased at Sears as a filterless humidifier for about $59. The idea of eliminating the expense of purchasing filters was attractive. But the reult of having dust type of material travelling through the entire house was not worth the savings. The materials in our water do require changing the filters more often than recommended by the manufacturer, but the desire to have some humidity out weighs the expense.

I know some have suggested against humidifiers altogether, but as they were doctor recommended for extremly dry sinuses, I will continue with their use. Thanks for all of the input.

olecapt was a Rocket Scientist/engineer in his previous life. Doesn't surprise me...he's a pretty smart guy. [Just be careful...too many people telling him he's smart will make his head swell so much...it might explode! ]

Hm, don't know where you got three humidifiers from...I ran one. And I got mud on my blinds. Please don't misunderstand, I didn't mean deep gross nasty sludgy mud, just a slight layer of moist dirt, aka mud. The proof is was on the blinds in the second bedroom after living in our apartment for a month. Sorry I wasn't clearer, I should have been. I'm sure it happens anywhere that dust accumulates, I was just surprised how quickly it accumulated once I had moved here.

Edited to add: Ah! Just read up and realized you were posting about someone ELSE's three humidifiers. Sorry.

So if I am running a tiny portable humidifier right next to my bed, the one that you just use a regular water bottle upside down with, am I breathing in chemical dust 'cos I just refill the water out of the tap ? Please and thank you !

We had two Oreck air purifiers. The dust they removed from the air was a drop in the bucket, despite the manufacturer's claim that they would clear all the dust from x-thousand square feet. I don't hold out much hope for your humidifiers.
