I have kept the pain under control using Ibuprofen. There was still pain, but it was minor. It went from bad to worse as of now. The swelling has increased, and the pain is extremely intense. The pills are no longer working, no matter how many I take. I have never experienced pain this bad in my whole life. I feel like calling 911 and going to the hospital, but I do not have insurance nor can I afford it. I was debating going to the dentist on Friday, but I decided not to hoping the infection would go away on its own. I am going to find a dentist for sure on Monday morning, but I really do not know if I can make it that long. It really is that bad. I live within walking distance of a 24 hour Walgreen's so if anyone knows anything I can buy that would help it would be appreciated. I honestly have not been to a dentist since I was a kid and was afraid to go on Friday. Now I am regretting it terribly. I had no idea it would become this serious as I have never had this problem before.
Sounds like an abscess! Really painful, and the nerve is involved. Most painful thing one can have! Go to a dentist asap! Work out a payment plan. That's your best choice.
The only pain pills that work for something like that is codeine/tylenol, by prescription only.

Oil of Clove may or may not help. Look for topical anesthetics that contain something with the word "caine" in it. Like novacaine. Remember these are only temporary treatments and must only be used until your dental appointment. Some really bad things can happen if untreated and you will end up in the local ER.

Prepare to make a dental appointment, round of antibiotics, and maybe an appointment with a specialist called an Endodontist who will clean the pulp area of the infected tooth and seal it with gutta percha. You will feel much better after this procedure. The cost ranges spectacularly but plan about one thousand dollars. And if a crown is needed, well, that will be more appointments and charges.

Good luck.

Is it your wisdom teeth?( i hope not because that is one of the worse feelings in the mouth along with dry socket.) Do you have any antibiotics or know someone who has amoxicillin or some other type.

Some home remedies I know are warm water and salt and rinse, maximum strength oral gel

I hope you find something and get well/ also if there is a free dental clinic or somewhere that doesn't extraction for about 60 bucks(without insurance)then go and have the dentist write you antibiotics. What about UNLV dental school- do the students work on patients with no insurance.

It is not wisdom tooth. I have had this same problem 2 years ago with the same tooth. The pain and swelling never got this bad, and it went away on its own within a few days. I thought that would happen again, but it isn't.

Thank you both. You are right. This is the worst pain of my life. I do have good news. I called an emergency dentist and he answered. It turns out there is a dental office that is open 7 days a week. They open at 9 AM today. Thank God, because there is no way I could make it until Monday. Making it through the next eight hours is going to be hard enough.

Yeah, I agree it's probably an abscess. Get help ASAP. There's an array of life threatening situations that can occur if this isn't treated properly. You're not saving any money by waiting and it most certainly isn't going to just up and leave out of nowhere.

I think going to a Endondontist is a waste of time and money. I had a root canal done twice on the same tooth and then it was replace with a porcelain a crown that chipped 2 months later from eating kettle popcorn. Somehow I was still feeling pain and I'm also think it was a waste of money because it's in the back of my mouth. I think the implant is the way to go. I have family member who are suppose to wear false teeth, but they prefer to walk around with no teeth. If I had the money, I would fly them to one of those foreign countries and pay for them to get them implants.

I hated to do this, but I took 8 Ibuprofen's at once a half hour ago, and the pain is now subsiding to a tolerable level although I do feel a little sick from the pills. Thank God as I just could not take it anymore. Hopefully I can now sleep a little bit before I go to the dentist.

Ibuprofen can cause your kidneys to fail if taken in excess.
