I hit a deer on the way to Salt Lake City about 10 years ago, 9PM, near remote Meadows, UT, it knocked out my one headlight, damaged the side of the rental car, I stopped and saw the deer running off into a field. How badly injured it was I'll never know!

Back in the old days, when driving around with Dad in the country, if the wild animal was small enough, badly injured enough, he'd merely back over it, or run it over again, to make sure it was dead, out of its pain and misery.

What would you do, today, if that happened to you?
Keep going.

Or like my uncles used to do back in the day...bring the animal home, skin it, cook it then serve it.

I've actually done both. Like tij said "...after you've hit the animal, what do you do?" I think its time to become practical and solve the problem. Im not driving a dieing possum to a vet...especially if I have no clue where the closest vet is...im putting the animal out of its misery any way i can, as fast as i can. If anyone thinks thats inhumane I think they're nuts.

...and i never chased buzzards off a dead animal, but I might have "bumper thumped" a pheasant in the head and eaten the breast before

Feel free to come over to my house and hit the three that seem to think my backyard is their playground!
