I filed mine immediately after I bought my house, but back in 1996 your assets were protected up to $125k, and they just raised it to $350k. So dash off to the Emergency Room and get yourself healed!

And, in the end, you can have the last laugh, when you're forced to go to a nursing home, your typical Las Vegan home unsaleable/worthless to any creditor! And have someone trash it up good before your final exit!

Gotta run!!!

Uhh...literally, eh, tijlover?

Hope you get to feeling better soon, the both of you. This greedy, blood-sucking money system just bites the big one. I hate it.

I agree with tijlover, get one of those whatever he was talking abouts, and go to the ER of your choice. Everything financial is goin' down the tubes, politicians can try but they won't be able ta fix it...the bankers and Wall St. can give each other bailout money raises and gifts and privileges and do whatever they want with gifted taxpayer money. So I say let things fall where they may...the whole system is set up to screw everyone over so just let the Buffett types continue ta kiss their money and throw it up in the air with delight...it won't save them before the Great Judge.

Glad it will end that way, too. What a nasty ratrace ta try and keep up with...the stupid credit scores and FICO and 'el RICO's and whatever the hell they are can just hop in to that Ford Thunderbird Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis drove off the cliff and...drive off a cliff made just for them.

So there. But go get seen somewhere so you're not in misery. Even though I work in the Allied Healthcare field, this nation's healthcare system is so over-rated and over-priced and full of so many know-it-all namby-pamby's it's vile and stinky and filled ta the rim with grim.

All of this world-is-ending-soon talk I've slipped in to leads me to wonder where both aqualung and lvd are. Did lvd go to Phoenix? Sure sounded like he was gonna head there. He must not have any computer access. Hey, the both a you...hope you're both doing well and God be with you...the toilet has been flushed on this system of things and we are beginning full-swirl. = then full-out happiness!! Our deliverance is getting near!

When I read of someone being unwell, and unable to see a doctor for help because of
financial worries, I realise how lucky we are here in England to have the NHS. I know many
Americans don't like the idea of universal health care, so I tread warily in what I say about it.
Many English people take our health care for granted, because it has been this way since the
end of the second world war. It is expensive, and costs a lot of taxpayers money. But, as
there are no costs to be worked out for the patient, or any insurance companies involved, my guess would be it's cheaper to run this way. I say this, with no comment at all on your
system of health care - mainly because I don't know anything about it!!

Those that are lucky enough to be living in a border city, or close proximity to it, and are brave enough, and can wisely brush away the over-exaggerated dangers, have an easier time of it in this country.

I'm heading for Tucson to retire, 65 miles to the Mexican border. Can't find adequate dental or medical help in Nogales, I'll bus it on down furthur to Hermosillo! And there's always the super-super cheap International Red Cross Clinic's across the border, just opened one in Rosarito, south of Tijuana, reportedly $7 to go see a Doctor. I went to one of these in Guatemala City one time! First Class service, except I only paid $4 to see a Dr. there!

Why can't we get International Red Cross Clinic's in this country? They have them in 3rd world countries, and after this last recession, doesn't this country now qualify for one in every city?

I find it puzzling why something so important as healthcare seems to cause so much anger
and dispute in America. As I say, my knowledge is ziltch. I have seen while in America on
TV, people marching waving signs saying things like, 'No Socialist Medicine'. Here in England,
it is not a subject people discuss much. The NHS is there to care for us if needed. I have
had dealings with it many times in my life. From I and my children being born under the NHS,
with operations I've needed, and of course, with sick and dying relatives. I have nothing but
praise for it, and for the doctors and nurses who work in the NHS.

It's, perhaps, easier to wash the brain of an American, than that of the British!

And the same wash rag can be used on millions of Americans!

Very scarey! Sets the stage nicely for a dictatorship in this country one day!

Too scared of change. How much do you pay in taxes? My health insurance deductible is 2,000. That has to be paid before they'll cover 100%. 25 dollar co-pays yada, yada. People cant even buy their own insurance when they have a pre existing condition ( Though there is PCIP most people dont know about it) or health insurance in Nevada that doesn't include maternity care when you buy on your own. Great system we have here.

You are correct. It's cheaper when 30% of each health care dollar is not going to bean counters and insurance companies.

Taxes are complicated! But, I have been on the government site that quotes tax rates.
The exchange rate in town today to buy dollars was $1.54 to £1. Income tax rates here
for 2012/13 are nothing for the first £8105, then 20% above that to £35,000. 40% above
that to £150,000 per anum. Most people here pay the 20%. National insurance is 12%
above £7,600. In other words nothing till approx $260 a week, then about 32% for the
rest of your income (approx). Most people pay those rates. Then, when you buy goods,
there is Value Added Tax of 20% on many goods like electricals, and adult clothing. No
VAT on food and childrens clothing etc. These taxes are national, you don't pay anymore
depending on where you live. Nothing like your different state taxes. Hope that helps!

All I know is that health care needs to be more affordable & easy to get in the U.S. People have no problem receiving/wanting their social security checks & Medicare, I don't understand why NHC is such a problem. Sorry for my vent, I've spent plenty of time without having health insurance.
