There are jobs when you're college educated and/or have a good skill set. The jobs I used to get are now being filled by those people. I have never denied that I have no marketable skills, and since that is the case, I cannot get a job in this town. Phoenix has a much lower unemployment rate that will give me at least give me a fighting chance to get a job.

That's hogwash. For my associate positions, none of them have a college background

There are TONS of college grads who cant get jobs right now, even making $8.25 an hr at target, its true.

You should go to a public tech school when you return to Phx, thats what I'm doing. Have you actually considered broadening your horizons?

Seems like the idealism of entitlement that so many people have adopted, is getting in the way of achieving success.

LVD, good luck on your journey back to Phoenix. Maybe you will see the city in a new light and learn to like it there once again. Your girlfriend that you have not seen for the last four years must really love you in order to wait all this time for your return. Treat her right, she deserves nothing less. Good luck, may the force be with you, and let us know how you are doing once you get settled in.

Jobs Employers Can't Fill
News Headlines
We're just coming to the end of this pendulum swing of a surplus of workers, swinging on the pendulum to a shortage of workers.

As soon as some of these barricades that were erected, during the surplus worker period, the jobs will get filled.

Does anyone recall when they had a slew of applicants for the reopening of a casino downtown, and 50% were eliminated due to not passing the drug test?

Clean driving records, background checks, fingerprinting, too much experience/education required, and on and on.

Recall during the boom period, the casino's on the Strip were importing workers form Eastern Europe to fill their spots. Why? Because they could pass a drug test and the some locals couldn't?

I know I have posted about her many times, but it has been a love hate relationship from the start. We became a couple in 1996, and officially broke up in 1999 when I left her for a much younger girl who ended up being a nasty (fill in the blank). I was too young and immature to have any sort of relationship at that time. During this time of my stupidity, my girlfriend ended up meeting a rich millionaire that was her age but soon after and he turned out to be a total jerk after wasting 5 years of her time. We rekindled our relationship in 2008, but began fighting again soon after. Now that both of us are both older (she is now 54, and I am 36), we both realized our mistakes. She is my soul mate, that is all there is to it. I cannot believe I am saying this, but there might even be wedding bells in the future. She has told me that I have to straighten out my life and get help for my addiction problem for that to happen. As my own mom has passed, I call her mom now since she could be, but she gets upset when I do that. Still, I feel she is my guardian angel that is going to help me get past this rough patch in my life.

p.s. Sorry about the grammar mistakes in this post, I have been drinking a lot, and I will not be able to anymore after tonight. Maybe that will be a good thing, who knows?

The big reason I'm choosing Tucson, over Phoenix, for a relocation for retirement, is that Phoenix is so i-n-s-a-n-e-l-y spread out, more spread out than L.A., IMO! The new light rail system is of help, but not enough!

I used to do home care, when I lived there, lived in Central, driving one way to Gilbert for a visit (35 miles one way), and a visit to Scottsdale/Pinnacle Peak (27 miles one way) and I had to contend with the super vigilant Joe Arpaio's police force and photo radar! If I had kept up that pace, I would have had to buy a new car every 3 years!

Hopefully, don't know what part of Phoenix you'll be living in, you can find a job where you don't have to travel 20-30-40 miles one way every day. Praying you find a job close enough!

60% of the people who relocate to Arizona hail from the Midwest, so you'll be with much more grounded, earthy people down there, hopefully! When I bought my house near Encanto Park in Central, I discovered, suprisingly, within time, all my neighbors, with one exception, had roots in the Midwest! It was like never having left Minnesota!

The composition of relocatees to Las Vegas is a whole different ballgame!

Stepping on my soapbox (I can't help it because I care about you).........

You, and only you, can decide that you need to stop drinking. If you are hoping that your girlfriend will motivate you to quit, you are are
destined to fail. Your girlfriend possesses no special power to make you quit. Maybe I misread your post but you need to get sober for yourself LVD. I wish you success and I think that your girlfriend is a special person to take this on with you. Please stay in touch. Sending good vibes your way LVD. You can do this!
