pahrump is VERY different than mesquite. we are approximately the same size population wise, mesquite has vegas tax $$$ to pull from. pahrump does not. i agree we have no true downtown & yes, you will need a car to get around here, but we are growing up. we've got a long way to go before we reach the prettiness of mesquite, but we are growing

In lieu of a downtown area in Pahrump, perhaps a scaled down Town Square Development, with some housing atop the commercial space, might be a good start. Sometimes the city develops out of a city government building, as an anchor, and I'm sure Pahrump must have a city government building, for starters.

I'll never understand why they didn't include some housing at Town Square!

there's no appetite here for "urban" living. we like our wide open spaces, have no need to be that close to commercial development.

there are multiple town & county government buildings, they are spread out over the valley.

I agree. Pahrump is not like Mesquite. Mesquite's layout is more appealing to me. Used to go there all the time when we lived in St.George.
If you have ever been to St.George, Utah in the mid 90's, I was expecting Pahrump to sort of resemble that, instead of the way it is. More tree's more green, a quaint boulevard with quaint shops. I think Pahrump can be improved, you just have to get the right city planners. Someone with creativity.

Water is the killer. All else is probably solvable. But there is no obvious water fix.

May be good in a way. No way large scale development can occur.

pahrump will never be las vegas. never. eventually we will become a city but until then, we are quite content with our wide open spaces.

Why did you move to Oakland? Are you near Piedmont by any chance? I know a crazy woman there, maybe you two could meet up for fast food since that is all she eats. An Italian that cannot cook.
