There are a number of food banks around town (I've used a couple of them myself), and their identification requirements vary, but one thing that they pretty much have in common is that you can avail yourself of their services three times a year. They give you enough food to last a week, maybe two, if you stretch it. A single person with no dependents gets only $200 a month on their EBT card.

It's not easy to survive, but it can be done.

Aqua, the people asking for help don't want food, they always want money. I would have given them some food, but they wouldn't have liked having to cook it first. I don't buy processed foods.

I understand that, Pink. I was giving you ammo to tell them. The Salvation Army also runs a dining room that serves three meals a day over on North Owens. I've never been there, so I can't say what it's like.

I could easily get by on $200 a month for food. When I was in FL living on my own I fed myself on as little as $25 a week, and $20 here with the 99c Only Store.

The grocery stores here need to run more buy one get one free specials. When I shopped at Publix in Florida, I was able to buy about $70 worth of food for $35-$40 and I ate like a king because of Buy One Get One Free. Somebody call Smith's lets get some BOGO's going

I see a lot of BOGOs when I shop, but even without those, I find the prices in the grocery stores here to be incredibly inexpensive compared to back East. In the 10 years that I lived in Bethesda, I don't believe that I ever once left a store without spending at least $100. Although it has only been 5-6 months here so far, I haven't exceeded $100 even one time.

What stores are doing the BOGO's?

I find groceries here to cost just as much as they do compared to Publix's prices I spend a little more though because I've yet to find a store that emphasizes BOGO. So far though, Smith's has had the best deals, followed by Vons, than Albertson's. We had Albertson's in FL till January of this year, and they are just as expensive here in LV, and even with their savings card, I cant save money with them

I honestly cant take eating fro the 99c Store any more. I need to have good quality stuff.

One can only live so long on Maruchan ramen. I made a pot of white beans yesterday, and all I had to season it was black pepper. Not bad, but it would have been better with garlic, celery, onions, potatos, and meat.

We usually shop at Glazier's, although we also go to Smiths and Fresh & Easy occasionally. (F&E doesn't have BOGOs per se, but they do have a 1/2 price section which amounts to the same thing.)

F&E is the best for markdowns. I always ignore all the meat, but picked up a huge potato salad yesterday for $1.25. It was originally $4.99. Love those markdowns.
A bunch of organic grapes for $1.50 marked down from $4. Still fresh and good.

I love F&E's prepared meals and produce. They have the best price for a bag of broccli florettes. I like them steamed with salad dressing.
