Living without A/C is actually do-able. But not recommended. Got to 90 downstairs, had all the fans running. Was miserable, but if we don't move around too much, it can work. Drink lots of iced everything, and do not cook.

Upstairs got to 95 with all fans running blowing out hot air. Felt like sleeping in a shed the first night. Very uncomfortable, got maybe 4 hours of some sleep. Opened the window to vent the 83 night time temps into the room, dropped the rooms temp a few degrees.

Guy came out today and it was a simple $160 fix for him. A bad capacitor. Husband was saying he could fix it himself. Sure...sure. That's why he didn't fix it. They always think they can fix it, but they don't have a clue sometimes. lol

As for staying in a hotel, I doubt Aliante casino would have let us stay there with our cat. She was having a very hard time cooling off in here. She is a senior kitty. We bought a portable air conditioner for the bedroom to be able to sleep at night and we would put her in the room with that and then she would sleep during the day. Now it should all be back to normal by tonight, as it seems to be taking awhile for the house to cool down again after this 4 day fiasco.

We said we would fix it. There's no need to nag us about it every 6 months!

Glad you got that AC fixed, Pink. UGH. I love the heat when I am OUTSIDE, but hate to be hot in the house, especially when I am trying to sleep.

My cats have always preferred not to be in the AC. When I lived in Iowa, the upstairs was a converted attic and it wasn't very well climate controlled. In the heat of the summer I would always know I would find the cats up there, usually on the landing, napping in the sun. (more like baking) Or outside on the enclosed porch where there was no AC at all.

PinkString - let me guess, your senior kitty isn't allowed ta go outside, right? None of my business, I'm just curious. Noticed this with a neighbor before. We were about ta move from one of our Idaho rentals one time and our neighbor mentioned she had an "indoor animal."

Seems Idahoans (any more of you irritable like this?) don't like the neighbors cats crapping in their yards. Even if they do bury it like cats do. One of my cardio-rehab patients who lives in Mullan, ID, said he "taught his cat not to leave his yard." Really?

They're real sensitive to other's cats there in the upper panhandle of Idaho for some reason. Fussy, uptight, irritable lot they are. Anyhow, I caught a glimpse one time of her "indoor animal," my neighbor's. Just an ordinary housecat, that it was!

My cats both go outside. The old one is not capable of leaving the yard. The big one could go anywhere it wants and ignores the fence but never gets off the property. Interesting both come inside to use the facilities. Neither will urinate or defecate outside. The dog of course considers the back yard his litter box.

Oh yeah, our Akita Chow and our Pomeranian just find a spot quick outside and let it go. They make quick business of it!

Our cat does not go outside. Always been this way. The place is big enough, she has lots of room to play and to run around, but doesn't do too much of that these days. Lots of windows to look out of, and prefers napping in the suns rays no matter what time of year.
If we lived in a place with super high walls, she would be able to go out in the yard supervised. We have dinky little walls made of some weird hard plastic material in our neighborhood of townhomes. Cats easily slip thru the gate and visit sometimes. A few small dogs over the years as well.

Our cat is fine. Her most favorite place is on my husbands lap. She bonded to him immediately when we first brought her home in the summer of 2002. She is his shadow. She hates being alone, especially overnight. IF we both go downstairs, she will follow, since she cannot be alone at all. She will howl at the garage door when we go anywhere. She is obviously part wolf.

We have 2 chihuahuas, one almost 11, and one just turned 3. They are indoor dogs, but they do LOVE to run around the back yard when I go outside for a smoke. Both are paper trained, but have learned to use the grass as well (doubling my cleanup time )

We moved here from a condo that only had an 8x8 wooden deck, and neither dog had ever seen/felt grass. It was hilarious watching them walk on it for the first time. Now they only have to hear the pack of cigarettes open, and they are both at the back slider jumping up and down in excitement.

Like your cat, PinkString, their favorite place is in sun. I don't let them out on the back patio during the day in the Summer due to the heat of the concrete, but they will lie in the sun right inside the door on the tile all the time. And when I do let them out when it's 105 or less, they'll jump up on the patio furniture and lie in the sun.

Ahh...love your responses. We all love our pets so much! I am not a hoarder and we have two dogs and two cats, but...and it's a big but...I could stand about 2 more of each breed. I think.
