As the British rock band 'The Godfathers' sing in one of their tunes 'Birth...School...Work...Death'.

LVD, man, how you are talking just reminded me of that tune. So definitive yet so...negative. So short-sighted, so short-sheeted. Sheet!

It seems people are lacking compassion these days.

Your quote above is hard ta argue with, really. People are sadly lacking in compassion these days. Hunkering down in their bunks, afraid to spend their money, afraid to invest in jobs and business, afraid to buy a new car. OK, well, we don't all need to buy a new car, that is kind of spendy. But it's sadly seeming that to a lot of people it's all about them and their money, and people don't matter to them.

So we can choose to live life in a way that is helpful to other people, then. You already are doing this LVD, you are helping aqualung. He needs the help. Hell, we all need other's help at times, don't we?

Ever tried to fill a cavity in one of yer own teeth? I didn't think so, we need someone's help. I too hope aqua finds work somewhere, and it would be cool if you two could room together, but that is up to you and aqua, most of it is up to you LVD. But you are not pondscum, LVD, in fact, to God, you are much more than just another person. He has the very hairs of your head numbered and he cares for you, even though many Lost Wagens don't, man. Don't forget that!

OK-I have bad teeth! No need for all out doom and gloom, baby!

Last night was interesting out on the roads. I went to Red Rock (Casino) and the entire 215 from Centennial Hills to Summerlin was enveloped in a cloud. It was surreal...kind of like I was back home where I grew up. Plus the roads were terrible. Every time I stopped my wheels would spin before I got some traction. Here are some pics.

It never fails that one of you totally cracks me up; either JFK or Buzz and today it was the post about smoking the cigar at the other end.

Otoh, LVD, the choices you have made about how you want to lead your life are just too sad to get into during the holidays. Without intentionally planning to, you took the precious years you have been given and are fulfilling your Dad's prophesy. I like everyone and have compassion for all but I tend to have the most empathy for true victims; not those who continue to make poor choices. People see what they want to see. If they want to continue being an unemployed pathetic victim, they lay around all day whining about their lot and yelling how there are NO jobs instead of spending some of their idle time making a plan of how they CAN earn money and building a case of all the reasons they "can't." There are winners in life and there are losers. One makes a choice which way they want to go.

We have a week to go before Christmas. I hope there is some way everyone who is down can drag themselves up by the boot straps and make a conscious decision to do their life better next year and maybe spend a little time trying to do something for those who are true victims of life.

As I get older (60) I'm becoming increasingly reclusive, scarily so, but I've always known the value of getting of town and clearing my head.

Having traveled all over the world, I now find that I have to force myself, now, to get out of town, with a long stickpin to my butt. I just can't trust my emotions anymore, and I look upon it as a job.

But once I'm 30 miles out of town, and once I arrive at my destination, I've never regretted I forced myself to go.

The cheapest mind-clearing getaway, even for the poor, is a quick 85 mile trip south to Laughlin, with their $15-$20 a nite rooms, cheap buffets, and even if you don't have a car, there's cheap shuttles to get you there.

SW Airlines, oftentimes, advertises some dirt-cheap RT airfare to San Diego for less than $100. Of course, I always skip over SD, and hightail to Tijuana on the Trolley and spend a couple days there in a cheap $20 a nite room, and prowl the Zona Norte district with their 50-60 bars all jammed together.
LVD: You'd feel like you'd gone to heaven to spend a night there! And I've always felt safe there, even my trip there 2 months ago. Find a big, long stickpin, stick it in and go, sometime!

It's true. Even my short day trips up to Mt.Charleston and Red Rock have long lasting benefits for me. It puts everything in perspective.

The best revenge on a father who has messed when you were young you up is to live your life as an exact opposite of his life. Let him explode over how wonderful his life could have been if he had decided to turn it around as you have done. I hope this make sense?

I agree, although I would not use the would revenge as it's really a useless pursuit to engage in.

I think all of us struggle with becoming an individual and deciding what traits and traditions we want to take with us. It's tough to break negative cycles but it's possible. Blaming our parents for our failures only will hold us back as an individual. At some point we need to take responsibility for ourselves. (Which I think you are kind of saying the same thing in a roundabout way.))
