We are not snobs but we do enjoy a good glass of wine with a nice dinner. I agree that wine is overpriced in any restaurant setting but it is something we consider an essential part of a good meal.

Thanks Pommy. On thing I should add is Davie's dream was my dream back in 2004 when I moved here. The difference is that he never gave up while I did and have just put up with my poor miserable life ever since. I did try to get a job at tons of casinos before giving up and moving back to Phoenix (temporarily until March 2006). One thing I could try is to get into casino security. With 4 years of security experience I do not see why I could not get hired for something like that. I know that they casino security get paid much better than me plus they get full benefits which I completely lack.

Why, yes, you did. But, I wasn't eating and it wasn't wine! I didn't say anything about beer! I have tried everything else in my day and the only thing that doesn't give me nasty hangovers is beer. Even that, the older I get the harder that is to handle! Well, I am sure quantity may play a part occasionally.

When it comes to getting a buzz, makes no difference to me what highway, street, alley or country lane I take, even if the roads are full of pot-holes, as long as it gets me from A to M (Mellow) that's all I ask for!

Currently, a big jug of Carlo Rossi's Sangria can last me quite awhile.

Perhaps, at 60, my taste buds have gone senile!

25 years ago I paid $90 for a bottle of Chateau Le Tour. After drinking that I have never purchased cheap wine again unless my wife made me

Study: $90 wine tastes better than the same wine at $10 | Underexposed - CNET News

Simply hearing that your wine is expensive will make your wine taste better. Once again, your beliefs create your reality.

Some years ago in London at a hotel in Mayfair I tasted a single malt scotch that I really liked. Motivated by this thread I though I might go off and buy myself a bottle..or if not available in the states have my London sister buy it for me.

Alas it is an orphan...the distillery closed in 1983. It is now $220 a bottle.

Did I like it that much? Probably not.

But it is now on the list if the spouse or children feel the urge to buy an unneeded present for some reason.

Maybe if I mention my will?

I am literally going crazy in that terrible place being woken up all the time because of my neighbor upstairs. Now that it has warmed up outside it is full of roaches again. I woke up with roaches crawling on me. This is no way to live. I am stuck in this place because of my low paying job. I am ashamed to say I did not even clear $20,000 last year. I have not had a raise since I started and prices for everything is going up on top of that. I am either going to start looking for a second part time job OR try to get a better job altogether. I have not decided yet. I will admit I did not think Davie would be able to get a job on the strip but he proved me wrong. I am really proud of him for not giving up on his dream despite multiple setbacks. It is now my turn.
I hope that your search is successful.

I agree with your opinion of wine. I think that there are some people who do not have the ability to tell the difference between wines. I am one of those people too. I hear people rave about some "great" wine and I taste it and I'm thinking a chardonay is a chardonay is a chardonay. They all taste the same to me.

I think you mean "Lavender Lily?" Still though, if you got ahead of me, I could just bonk you with my cane and beat you anyway.

As for wine, I have a bottle of that blackberry merlot in my fridge collecting fridge dust. maybe I'll finally drink it now that I've been reminded of it again.
