Congrats to Sandoval to helping to keep our taxes so low in this last legislative session in Carson City!

Our taxes have been kept low for 30-odd years, making it so alluring to corporations relocating here.

How many corporations, insurance companies, banks relocated here in just the last year? And how many will arrive in the next year?

A round of applause to the anti-taxers in this state! Keep those corporation headquarters relocating to Nevada! Before long, Chicago and NYC will be ghost towns!

I try and focus my anger on people like Wall Street traders, unscrupulous bankers, hedge fund managers, owners of oils companies, Countrywide Mortgage and the like.
If I am inclined to give a homeless person or a beggar money, so be it, if not, I just continue on my way.
I find some a__ hole blasting his loud obnoxious rap music in my ear from his car much more upsetting than the few words mumbled by a beggar. The beggar's aural assault ends by my walking two steps. The boom box boy can stay with me for miles.
The other question we have to ask is why there are so many homeless and beggars that they impact on our consciousness. Maybe if we learned to share a little bit more as a country, rather than hoarding what we have and always trying to "get ahead", this would not be such a big issue. I for one would sleep a lot better knowing that some of my tax dollars helped a Katrina victim, or a Joplin resident rather than financing tax breaks for Exxon or a war in Afghanistan.
It's like when I worked as a dishwasher/busboy. Before that experience I had little regard for service personnel and didn't worry about tipping. Since then, I find that my level of compassion, and tipping, is slightly augmented by my appreciation for their working conditions. Having had my moments of quiet desperation, I can't really summon up the rage against those less fortunate than myself.
Now, if you want to discuss the Richie Riches of the world and their extravagant waste, I would be more than willing to throw down!!

27 days til las Vegas!!!
Humbles people to walk a mile in another's shoes.

Another thing about me, is I'm very prideful. If anybody (even family) offers me financial or any kind of assistance, I always tell them no. I feel like I need to take care of it on my own even when I know I cant, and if I do accept any help I always pay back, even if I'm told I dont have to
Maybe "those people" got hamburgers thrown at them in the past (so to speak) and then grouped all homeless as ungrateful addicts so they just stopped giving to anyone. Quite possibly, a hungry man picked up that burger and enjoyed it.

I hope you don't become too jaded about this or anything else. You may be in jeopardy of becoming like one of those posters who cause the regulars to have to defend their city!

The panhandlers over there at Third Street and Fremont are aggressive. There is a Native American male inflicted with aids that will spit on you if you refuse to give him some money. Others hang out in front of the Fitz asking for your McDonalds receipts to try to get the free drink refills. Most of them are the same faces I have seen hanging around there for years. When they are hungry or want to avoid the outside temperatures. They will constantly go into the Fitz or the 4Q to become a nuisance because they know Security will detain them and call METRO for trespassing. It gains them a comfortable place to sleep with a free oatmeal breakfast in the morning. Then they are usually released by noon. They are back on Fremont street starting off their day panhandling or the usual butt picking for cigs and collecting abandon drinks.

If you were really bored sometime, you could use the old string on a dollar bill trick. You get a thread type string and tie it to the money, and each time they try to pick it up, you pull it away. Someone actually did this in a parking lot with a $20 once. I tried to pick it up a few times, then stepped on it and snagged it. The tricksters were not happy once they yanked their string back with nothing on the end.

I wont become one of those posters. I'm simply an outsider, by choice but not always by choice. I look around and I see the way things work, the whole established system, of our govts (local, state and fed) and the way a lot of the common people are, and it just angers me the way some people act thinking wahtever it is they're doing is ok, granted is their choice, it still doesnt make it right (ex telling a legitimately homeless person to Eff off, which has happened to me when I've been homeless)

So I end up lashing out as I have these past few days or so. It seems like all everybody is after is mkaing a quick buck, especially in Las Vegas

Granted I'm not going to start knocking Las Vegas, but when I see things that anger me as they have lately, I have to say something about it

Saying something a little more positive. I had a job interview at Pier 1 yesterday of Durango between 215 and Elkhorn (2nd pt job) Job is looking very good, just need to adjust my availability at the Cosmopolitan first) and driving home I decided to follow 215 west towards Lone Mountain and down to Summerlin Pkwy

Driving west on 215 between Durango and the bend after the Hualapai exit is absolutely beautiful, the Spring Mountains looked so majestic to me yesterday. Thats one of the things I will ALWAYS love about Las Vegas

Funny thing. My husband's brother is there visiting and for a bachelor party. Last night they were at Caesars, where all the guys are staying and they wanted to go to Pure. My husband is not a "club" guy and doesn't see the point of paying that kind of money for a drink or waiting in the huge line. He said they were lined up at 8 pm for miles and that continued all night! Anyway, someone thought he was Bob Segar and let him and his group go to the head of the line and he got into all the VIP areas! LOL! (I said, "what!!!??? Bob Segar is pretty old and you are not!" But, he said the young kids don't know that?) Whatever works, I guess! He said that a screwdriver in a rocks glass was $17.50! Geesh! I don't know how these guys can even buy girls drinks at that rate!!!!

He did say it was kind of cool to see Pure, but it didn't live up to all the hype and it was so crowded you could barely move! BTW, some of the guys that came in after them tipped the door guy $400!! I am sure that is nothing, but to me....what I could do with some of the money thrown around there!

Homelessness is a serious problem in Vegas and I think the cities of Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, and Clark County all need to get together and address the issue

Seeing all the poverty and sadness and general laziness of a lot (not the majority, but a lot) of people in this town has turned me Republican LVD

If I ever register to vote in Nevada, Im planning to register as a Republican

This is one reason America is going broke. All these government handouts like food stamps, wic, welfare, etc, etc, etc.

I say we cut off the handouts and make people work for what they want. I'm sick and tried of standing in line at Smith's and seeing the lady in front of me with 5 kids between the ages of 6 months and 3 years, pay with wic and food stamps while she calls one of her baby daddies on her iphone 4, and drives off in a brand new Escalade, and speaks ZERO english, while red blooded, red meat eating, hard working Americans like me are paying for it
This is why I like driving a really sh%tty looking car. I almost never get bothered for money by homeless people. The combination of dressing grungy and driving my Escort works very well at keeping the homeless people away. I did buy a new car this weekend though. It is over at Teach1234's place being worked on. I could just NOT go another summer with no AC, but I am already regretting buying this car.

RIP old Escort.....
