Our 19 year old is moving to vegas for an externship for 5 months. We are looking for a safe place to find an apartment. He will need to get to the strip to work. Any suggestions? He will have a car. It is very confusing to figure this out.

People can make better suggestions if you give us as many details as possible .... e.g. - what's your budget ($1000/mo? $2000)? How long of a commute is he looking for? Just stuff like that. There are so many options here, it helps to narrow things down. Good luck!

Well put Dr. Go.

Momv ... will he be leaving after 6 months? Apartment.com will answer some of your questions, then return here with specifics about location etc. The folks here are very helpful and many of us have had traveling kids. We understand your concerns.

I know of a studio apartment that is right of the strip behind Bally's casino. They are $600 a month with all utilities included. They are also month to month. Let me know if you want the address.

The best scenario is to avoid the northeast and the central areas immediately around downtown.

Anything further to the outskirts should be fine.

Closest commute to the strip in a good, affordable area would probably be the Silverado Ranch area (89123, 89183).

Wow , some responses a little off track. He is actually coming from NY not far from Woodstock. Not a Hippie though. He will be working at the Venetian. We are looking for an apartment, or short term housing $1,000.00 or less. It doesn't have to be fancy just in a safer area. He has been living in a dorm for the past year. Thank you for any suggestions you might have. We are going to take a trip in april looking for a place for him.

I actually just mentioned this complex to someone in this forum a couple of days ago, but it fits what you and your son would be looking for: Covington at Coronado Ranch, located at Robindale and S. Rainbow Blvd. (southwest part of town).

I lived here for one year when I first moved here and thought it was a great TEMPORARY location. Rent was $900/mth for a second floor 1br/1bth (after including utilities and my cable, I paid usually between $1000-$1050 per month). Some attributes: gated, resident only covered parking (a big bonus when it starts to get hot), a Mediterranean layout/look, 3 swimming pools (one for each wing of the complex), an exercise room, a computer room (free internet access).

Additionally, no more than a 5 minute drive you have a nice shopping center (The Arroyo, I believe it is called), which has Best Buy, Home Depot, Sam's Club, a sports store, Bed Bath Beyond, ...
Other grocery stores and food spots are also no more than a 5 minute drive.

Travel time from here to the Venetian, if traffic is not awful, can be as short as 15-20 minutes.

I am not sure, however, if they accept a rent under 12 months, but they do have a website with information and contacts. Check out their website. Of course, do not make a final decision without seeing it (or any place) yourselves first.

Hope this helps!
