What is the average cost of utilities in Vegas? Does it depend on location, or is it pretty standard across the board? From what I've seen online, most apartments have some utiilties included, but I don't know which ones. I'm assuming trash pick up and maybe water? I am hoping to find an apartment with electric heat and gas for cooking.

The cost of utilities varies a lot from one "average" to another. Also, most apts only offer all electric. The apts that have utilities included, it's usually water, sewer and trash. But some apt complexes will charge you an extra $15-$25 a month or more for water.
One persons average price they pay compared to another can be drastically different. I am a miser when it comes to heat and to a/c. If you want to keep your electric bills down more in the summer, get a ground floor unit and use ceiling fans.

My apartment faces north, and I'm on the second floor. With this in mind, I don't get direct sunlight in my apartment and kept my thermostat at 70 degrees from the beginning of November - the end of January. My highest electric bill was $78.00, and my apartment is all electric. My complex does not pay water, but my water bill was around $12.00 a month. Cable bill is about $54.00 a month. I did see an ad for an apartment on Craigslist today for $800.00 for a 1 bedroom and if you wanted utilities included, it was an extra $200.00 a month. I don't see how this could save any money, unless your apartment is not energy efficient and your bills are in excess of $70.00 a month for electric/gas. At the same time, I have not lived here in the summer months, so I am interested to see what my electric bill will be during that time.

My electric bill comes with a comparison chart. Its suppose to compare me to others in my same category, like # of people, sq ft, fact we have gas for dryer and hot water, etc. Now this is whacky cause we don't skimp all that much, yet they say we use 25% of what others use. So, the numbers you get are likely to be all over the place.

For us ... 2 adults 1400 sq ft 3BR 2 BA etc.
$80 Gas
$75 Elec
$15 water
$20 sewer
$125 extended cable plus internet plus phone line.
This is Oct to May ... elec will go up.
