Hi Everyone,

I'm Cade and my question is directed to those in the transportation industry. I realize that we are in a recession but am curious about local trucking jobs in Vegas. My husband has over 10 yrs exp with a clean MVR. We currently live in Albuquerque but he is unhappy about having to drive in the snow (we are originally from California).

Vegas seems to have far more affordable housing than Cali and we like Vegas. I've checked trucking jobs online for Vegas but rarely find listings, which I am having a hard time believing given all the hotels etc there which need deliveries.

I've seen some other topics here with posters stating the wages there are on the low side. That's true here in ABQ as well, and it took my husband nearly a year to find local, paid-hourly work with a decent wage.

Thank you in advance for your time and comments

~Cade~

Check the local Vons grocery stores, Cade. Lately they've been stocking a truckers jobs listing in the entance to the stores, where you'd find the real eastate listings. Best of luck to you both.

Yes, it's true. LV has few trucking jobs. I'm assuming you are talking about what we call the big boy trucking jobs; over the road but not out at night nor pedal deliveries with a handtruck door to door. I don't know the reason why they don't, I just know it is a fact that exists.

I am talking about the jobs where a driver makes deliveries/pedal runs OR LTL, which he really prefers b/c it's not such hard labor. Either way, he is looking for local work where he works a shift and comes home (day or night shift); and receives an hourly wage. NOT over the road (OTR) work.

Oh that sounds good but we don't have Vons here in NM, and I sure do miss them. Thanx for the reply

Vons and Safeway are the same company. Do you have them in NM?

What type of endorsements does your husband have? Doubles, triples, haz-mat?

He could look into Republic Services (waste management). I know that there is a stigma to that job but they pay very well and the benefits are outstanding (from what I hear).
Republic Services, Inc. | Waste Management & Garbage Collection

If he has a doubles and a haz mat endorsement he could look into Apex Bulk Commodities.
Apex Bulk Commodities, Inc.
They mainly run regional routes but I believe they also have some local routes.

He could also try Southern Wine and Spirits of Nevada. They deliver to and service local bars and restaraunts. Home

Of course he could always try Coke and Pepsi distribution centers as well. Hope this helps.

You guys are all so helpful, thank you so much!

To the supermarket question: we have Smith's (Kroger) and Albertsons, and then mom and pop places and of course, Wal-Mart.

To the endorsements question: (he would love getting into waste management btw) he has all 3: Haz-Mat; Double/Triples/ and Tanks.

I will send him those links TY!

He worked for Pepsi - never again - over-over-worked to the max and they can't keep guys b/c of it which makes it a vicious circle of too much work and not enough men

No problem. He could also look into paving and heavy construction. I imagine that with the road projects that will likely come on line due to the stimulus package there will be plenty of work in the heavy construction business. Here is a link to a google page of local paving and heavy construction companies.
