Hello,
My husband, myself and 2 daughters ages 7 and 8 are considering a move to the LV area after our house sells in NJ. Please advise me on the best high schools in LV/Henderson. During our visit to LV last week we looked at homes in Summerlin, Henderson and Boulder City. Boulder City seems very expensive. We really liked Summerlin and its proximity to Red Rock. A good high school is our main priority, even if we have to buy a smaller house in a better area.
Also, I am and RN and would like to know which of the hospitals are nicest with the best reputations. I perefer teaching hospitals if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Coronado, Green Valley, Centennial, and Palo Verde are ranked the best high schools in the valley (in that order). Corresponding middle and elementary schools should be good as well.

I'd say try for Henderson, if schools are the top concern (since Coronado and GV are the top 2). Next best bet would be the northwest for Centennial (cheaper than Summerlin anyway).

Looking at your 2 themes of good schools and nursing, I think targeting the city of Henderson and Coronado High School would be great. The main teaching hospital in town is University Medical Center (UMC Southern NV), but if you do settle on Henderson you can't go wrong with the St. Rose Hospital System. It is a Catholic Healthcare West (CHW) system and has 3 campuses (2 in Henderson and 1 in SW LV).

All depends. Coronado is the best of the "generic" high schools. But St Rose is a long way from UMC for a heavy duty RN. And a kid who can cut the magnet schools can do a lot better than Coronado. Then again a kid who is not gong to cut ATech may be equally as well off at PV or GV or ArborView or Centennial or...and those all cost a lot less.

More info is needed for a directive. Nothing wrong with GN/Coronado/St.Rose...however it is one of a half dozen equal opportuinties.

The only thing about magnet schools is that getting in is based on a lottery system, so in many cases, if you don't get lucky with the lottery, the standard "generic" high schools are what's left (unless you want to shell out money for a private).

I do agree that Centennial, Green Valley, Palo, Arbor View, etc. are about the same as Coronado in quality.

Out of the areas, Centennial is probably going to be the most cost-effective, while Coronado and Palo are likely to be the most expensive. So maybe the northwest wouldn't be a bad idea.
