Expedia has a special on this hotel. Is it in a safe neighbourhood and are there many shops and restaurants nearby? Thanks.

There's a Wal-Mart nearby and restaurants inside the casino, I don't know what kind of other shopping your looking for, its not that far from Rainbow/Lake Mead, which has all the big boxes or Rancho/Craig which has some big stores...

It is pretty safe around the casino, just don't venture too far east along Lake Mead like near the alphabets or once Vegas turns into Owens...

Inside the hotel it's as safe as anywhere. There are some good restaurants in the hotel, Garduño's for one, and before Stations bought it, they used to brag about paying out the most Royals. I suppose it's still the same. It's a locals joint and most locals like it there. The neighborhood isn't one for doing anything outside, and to the east, and south it gets dangerous, but you'd need a car to do any shopping or eating away from the hotel anyway. You can walk across the street to Texas Station, another large locals joint, and they have movie theaters, and some pretty good restaurants too. It's not a walking neighborhood in any direction though. There is shopping in a large strip mall about 2 - 2½ miles west at Lake Mead and Rainbow, with good restaurants all around there and further west. It's actually closer to downtown than to the Strip, but if you have a car it won't matter. You'd want to go south on Rancho to the U.S. 95 expressway to get downtown or to I-15 to get to the Strip. You wouldn't want to go east on Lake Mead at night. You'd be all right, but since you don't know the town why take a chance.

Denny's and McDonalds are two of the Fiesta Restaurants. Some gangbangers in there, for sure. It's tolerable, but for Example, Rampart is way nicer.

What type of visit are you looking for?

Mid-range dinning and shops within three miles? You've found it. Smoke Ranch Dr is right there at the light. Go to Rainbow(about 2.5 miles) and turn left. within 4 blocks you'll have good selection of shops and dinning.

High level shops and dinning in a short drive? Keep looking.

If a casino has shopping and dinning, its not generally cheap. So, if you're willing to drive a little, you're right on target. You might want to visit the web site of Texas Station, as mentioned, right across the street. If the deals are close, pick Texas Station. The atmosphere is one bump up.

If your group enjoys bingo, check it out. Atmosphere is good and pots decent as all station casinos tie together for some games. Don't forget your two complimentary drinks during bingo. They are nice and strong.

I just stayed at Texas Station across the street. The rooms were very nice and cheap. The only drawback is their daily service fee of 13.99 for newspaper and internet in room.

I thought the rooms were only 15. 13.99 is a ripoff for paper /net.

Wow... Who would pay that? You're on vacation, do you really need the net? And that paper will cost you about $1 at the newstand.

You don't have a choice. When you book the room, it is an automatic fee that they charge per day whether you use it or not.

Interesting....Sounds a little "bait and switch" to me....Advertise $20 rates an then tack on $20 in mandatory incidentals.
