Seniors need imput, utility costs, rental costs, moving costs, should, I stay in Ohio (land of the snow) or move to the wonderful heat of Nevada. We are moving June 2010, are there waiting lists to get into senior safe apartments? What expenses will occur when we move, any help would be great!

Since your so far out what you get for costs now will be much different in 2010. Due to the economic down turn rents maybe way different, also costs moving will be different. Currently there are more moving trucks leaving Las Vegas then coming to Vegas.

It is really great in Vegas for seniors, besides the great weather there is 24/7 things to do other than gambling. The shows are are great and great places to dine. If your an active senior there is biking in Red Rock, winter sking just 30 min from Vegas at Mt. Charelston, Valley of fire is only 30 min away. Boating at lLake mead, and I believe there is 46 golf courses. So if you can't find something to do in Vegas your in trouble.

Moving costs are like everywhere else, the moving van, utilities, drivers license change,if you have a local drivers license or id allot of casinos offer discounts to locals for shows and food. Also you will have to get new plates for your car that is of the purchase price.

I don't know where your from but there is nothing like Vegas.

Granny Nanny, I'm in Ohio and waiting for my house to sell to move to LV. We have been in this process now for many years. There is a search bar at the top of this page and if you type in exactly what you want to know, you will be able to read many previous posts on the subject. There is a "crime incidence map" that shows by zipcode the heaviest and lightest incidences of crime per area. Crime is everywhere as in Ohio and I understand one of the most crime free areas is Sun City Summerlin, the 55+ community. Unfortunately, Sun City Summerlin does not have any rental apartments. Villas and houses can be found for rental but small ones generally begin around $1200 per month plus fees. Utilities and MVR has been addressed along with the best prices for long distance moving sources. We have researched and planned our move for over 10 years now and I can tell you, housing is still more expensive in LV than our area whereas property taxes are only about 1/4th of what we currently pay, utilities are much cheaper there, cable is cheaper there, there is no State tax, but insurance and car registration is higher. If you factor in the loss leader restaurant offers, it is a less expensive and much nicer area to live in although as the OP suggested, I don't think seniors can afford to set fire to $300 or more dollars for show tickets ever.

Doesn't matter. You will be much better off in Nevada than in Ohio as far as weather, scenery, and exciting things to do. BUT!!! You will miss the support of family and close friends, you will miss the sense of community you find in old established neighborhoods in the east, you will probably not even be able to get a quorum for a funeral, and you may never see the change of seasons again. If that is OK with you, and you want to put a little more sizzle in your life, don't worry about minor details. It all balances out financially. In fact, it's probably slightly cheaper to live here even with the sticker shock you'll get from your Nevada car registration. If you can stand a complete cultural change, scenery change, and attitude change, come on out.

Warning: I have never met anyone from Ohio who didn't start nearly ever sentence with, "That's not the way we did it in Ohio." If you feel the need to say that, bite your lip, or risk getting chewed out...or worse.

Come onnnnn dudes....there ain't no such word as alot, and it drives me crazy. Besides, start a sentence with a capital letter just for me and Mrs. Morgan. Not pickin' on Airics either.

There may be a lot of free shows, but are there any that last more than ten minutes? I don't doubt you, I'd just like to know where.

I think airics was talking about the shows you can see when you're signed up for websites like Goldstar. Those tickets are first come, first served, and for locals only. You have to show proof of residency when you pick up the tickets at the respective box officers.

In the past, we saw Danny Gans, Mamma Mia and Stomp Out Loud via Goldstar. All for free.

Really? I noticed at a show we went to that it wasn't full and they were letting people sit where they wanted, and I had a feeling they were filling seats however they could.
