I would agree with that...it's an entirely different debate. I had both of my kids in Vegas, but left in part because I didn't think it was a very good place to raise kids.

Unfortunately, I moved here during the half of my growing up years. This place tainted me forever!

Las Vegas was votest top 5 of the meanest cities in the USA. The thing is I have no clue why people here are so mean.

Maybe it's that they are so mad from losing so much money gambling. Or it's so darn hot that it makes people get cranky!

Default is vegas a bad place to have a baby?

Well, I was born in las vegas, at the women's hospital (the one that shut down about 20 years ago, from what I've heard) in 1976, and I turned out fine. I don't know the details of the hospital's closing. I only know what a couple of locals out there told me when I was out there celebrating my 21st birthday. They overheard a conversation I was having with my best friend about me finding my birth mother. When I mentioned the hospital, they told me that it had closed down with the records inside about 3 years ago (this was in 1997 that I was told this) and it was a big controversial deal and it was all over the news. Feel free to correct me if what I heard was inaccurate. There are enough conspiracy theories surrounding my adoption wthout this one......................maybe Las Vegas isn't the greatest place to birth a child, at least back then.

It is OK to have a baby in Las Vegas. In fact they probably give the baby a deck of cards and you a framed birth certificate with a pair of dice that say "boy" and "girl" on them. But would you actually raise a baby there? I would never. It is a town for adults, not for families.

You are so spot on. My toddler is already a pro at Blackjack and Poker. Can't wait till she learns Roulette.

The strip is a place for adults. The rest of the city is just a city, like any other, with its goods and bads.. Go through the suburbs sometime and you won't even know you're in Las Vegas.

Yes and no. The vibe of the strip does permeate the rest of the metro area. A lot of the off strip entertainment centers around the locals casinos, which have things like movie theaters and bowling alleys to draw in local families. Every store has a few slots/VP machines. The town may look like any other southwest city, but you still know that your in Vegas.

If wanted to start a family and raise kids, it wouldn't be in Vegas.

Default Is Vegas really a bad place to have a baby?

This thread has gone off topic. Raising children here, or whether LV is a good place for a family, is a separate topic that's been discussed, and will be again, in other threads.

Had my son at Spring Valley Hospital. The nurses were top notch.
