The other night we were out for a bit and he says to me, "so and so traded so and so for so and so..." Funny, he must have mistaken me for one of his brothers or something...I have no clue!!!!!!
LOL, I just nod my head like I understand. Only have a problem when he asks a question later on about what he just explained to me. Hubby was that way with wrestling, thank god he grew out of that. Now it is just cars and the Dodgers.

Well, Nascar is on as I type. He just picked that up a couple years ago and I didn't think he needed to add another sport to his roster but...he especially loves the Red Wings and football (note I didn't say the Lions because they are stinkin' but we still hope one year...)he will watch whatever-the Pistons, Tigers, MI football, OH State (he was born in OH)...list goes on.......blah, blah, blah...

Default To be honest...................

I moved here because of the hype. For instance, cheap housing, great meals and great jobs. When I got here, it was a different story. It took me 7 months to find employment. Even though I have a BA, it was difficult. The pay was half of what I made from the bay area. Rental was a little cheaper than the bay area. The high cost of car insurance in Vegas ate up the difference. All in all, it was a stupid decision to move to Vegas. I reget the decision of ever moving here. Education for my kids in Las Vegas suck big time. It takes forever to make an appointment with the doctors.

I have no idea why anyone would consider moving to Las Vegas these days when the unemployment rate is at 11.5%.

Somebody picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue. ^_^; I love a t-shirt that I once saw, "Montana: At Least The Cows Are Sane".

I'm starting to "see" online a woman from Dearborn. Thank God she doesn't talk about sports, since that's really not my thing.

I don't doubt your experience...but.

Is the cost of car insurance that much higher in Vegas than San Francisco?

Lower wages makes sense, as the cost of living is so much lower.

I made the move from San Francisco (ridiculous high cost of living, and somewhat okay wages) to San Diego (ridiculous high cost of living and really low wages). My natural conclusion would be Vegas (low cost of living and low wages) would win moderately okay over SF, and ridiculously over SD.

First of all I am happy to say that LVinWA is due for a name change. Something like LVinLV? The Las Vegan has returned to his homeland!

I was noticing yesterday while shopping in the Charleston Commons shopping center (is that what it's called, I just call it the strip mall with the Wal Mart on Nellis) that... Las Vegas is a moderately clean city. Even in the so-called "sketchy" areas like the east side. Having lived near Seattle and Tacoma, I can safely say Las Vegas holds it own very well in appearances. Decent landscaping is seen throughout (oh how I've missed my palm trees!).

I love my city, and I was born here so it's definitely the place for me.

I guess whether or not Las Vegas is for you depends on what you are looking for. I moved here ten years ago, about a year after my husband died. I was looking for three things, weather wise: no more blinding winter blizzards, less summer humidity and fewer summer thunderstorms. As for housing, even had I stayed in Michigan, I likely would have sold the house and bought a condo. Hubby was always the one who wanted a yard and garden. I knew decades ago I wouldn't be planting gardens or mowing lawns. So, in planning my move here, the only thing I was looking at were condos. Let the HOA handle the landscaping and outdoor maintenance.

I'm not one for gambling any more - honestly can't afford it. But I'm located about two miles west of The Strip, with a couple of smaller 'local' casinos even closer, which makes it convenient when I have guests who do want that excitement. And, as I said above, I'm not much of an outdoors type of person, so even the triple digit heat isn't bothersome for me, except when it makes my power bills jump. Even that is manageable through the equal payment plan available through the power company.

Truth be told, I cannot come up with a single negative experience since I moved here that I wouldn't also have experienced in Michigan.

The posts have been interesting. I'm a 50ish single woman and I've told my children for years that I wanted to move to LV. You can fly in/out cheaply at any time of the day (or night). You can go as high end as you want with food, spa, entertainment or even low end with early bird breakfasts at $3.00!! I love the desert feel and the cleanness of the stucco buildings with palm trees. No state income tax is a plus!! I've visited many times to the strip area and most recently in the past few years off the strip to attend tennis tournaments that my son was in.

If I felt that I could secure a decent job there now I would sell my Colorado home and move in a heartbeat!! However I've been with my tech company in financial sales for several years and don't think I could match what I can make right now elsewhere.....but I do plan to come...someday!!!!

Is it really impossible to get a Dr.'s appointment? What's up with that? I'd not heard that before....i'd be shocked to know there was not good healthcare in LV with all the retirees there.
