Coming for a visit, but I always like to check out the local music scene wherever I visit and the local record shops. I know Tower and Virgin are gone, but what local record stores are there, if any, that carry a good selection or wide variety of music? What's the hippest store in town, if there are any? [I know these days many cities no longer have any good music stores left, sadly.]

Zia is a used record store, but has a wide variety. Eastern and Flamingo area.

Thanks. I've visited Zia in Phoenix and Tucson, so I know what they are like. Average store, nothing special, but OK. Is that is for LV? I know record stores are endangered species but a metro population over a million doesn't have more choices than this?

Hmm...don't know about now. But when I was younger and really into record stores...I lived in Minneapolis and Portland Oregon for awhile, and tons of record stores.

I've been to Las Vegas a number of times...but I don't recall any independent type of record stores. Feels very corporate in that sense...just regular brand name record stores.

Also, unlike Minneapolis and Portland and other cities I've known, there doesn't seem to be a thriving independent music scene flourishing. I can't even think of where the hip places would be to see cool music or such.

Anyways, I am curious about the answers here, would love to know if there are things like that in Vegas.

Im sorry to say, there are no independent record stores left in Vegas. Blame Best Buy on that decline. Sound Barrier and Balacony Lights have long since expired. The closest thing is Zia which isnt too bad. Keep in mind. Vegas is not a normal city like San Fransico or Seattle and lacks the culture to keep any thing independent alive.

So true. You'd think there would be something left by UNLV, but no. Sad, really.
