The good news is, if there's anyplace where a felony record might not matter, it's Las Vegas.

The bad news is, if there's any single place in the U.S. that has the worst job market and the highest unemployment, it's Las Vegas.

I know exactly what you're saying about AZ, bro, but let's face it--you're screwed. You are doomed to scrounging for low-paid ****work for the rest of your natural life. That's because any clown can look you up on the internet these days.

The only cure is to go to court and get your criminal record expunged or sealed. It might have been long enough ago that you can do this--the waiting period is usually 3-7 years, depending on the severity of the offense. You can do it yourself, don't need a lawyer, and it costs about $500. After you're done, you can truthfully answer "NO" when you are asked on a job application if you have a criminal record.

I'm serious about this. With a criminal record, the only options are to become a criminal or die; it's impossible to find a job. You may gather that I speak from experience.

not every state will expunge your past F's or M's

I noticed that if your F or M is over 5 yrs most of the time it will not come up....Lot of Felons work in the brothels and they got sheriffs cards in some of the hardest counties in NV that are so anal about the littlest things. But they got them because their F's and M's were over 5 yrs.

just having "A FELONY" will not keep you from being employed. The TYPE of FELONY WILL.

In some companies thay don't G.A.S. in most they DO

it all depends on the job and on the Department oyure looking for....

With all due respect, I would like to know where you get the above is possible, without setting it up like that from the sentencing. If it were possible, countless thousands of felons in this nation would be clogging the court system and working three jobs at once to pay to get it done. It cannot be done except under very narrowly defined circumstances. Or by becoming friends with an outgoing governor, who pardons you on his way out of office.
There are many felons on CD discussing the fact that 15 and 20 years later they are still being refused apartments and jobs due to the past felony record.

I agree.
My son has always maintained employment. 99 percent of corporate supervised positions are closed to him, (such as working for Dollar General, Panera Breads etc), but he has ALWAYS held a job and will always hold one.
The good news I have gleaned from this thread is he may have a shot at actually getting into a real company out there, even with his felony record. He is very bright, extremely personable, a good team player etc etc. so if the felony record alone does not exclude him from casino work, he may have a chance at corporate America yet (his dream).
He won't have ANY issue with working whatever lowly, part time, board type job for as long as it takes if it means he can eventually move up.
I have also suggested that if he gets interviews, to take the actual police arrest affidavit along with him.... knock them dead in the interview, tell them in short but sweet terms about the felony (give them a copy of the affidavit so they can see that what he says happened, in fact is actually what happened) and go from there.
In Tn, a felony record is a no hire for just about ALL positions, anywhere, except in a rest. kitchen or a privately owned business where they make their own hiring decisions.

Maybe not where you live, but here it comes up for life. LIFE. I have a friend who does background checks for companies, apartments etc. She doesn't only check the computer records, she has to go into the HUGE outdated books that were recorded by hand back in the 1980's and before, and check them too.

I did read somewhere that in CA a felony more than seven years old is not legally allowed to be disclosed during background checks. If that turns out to be the case, he may actually scoot into CA to live when we get to Nevada. He HATES CA though, so hopefully, he won't need to do that. LOL

My son's felony was seven years ago next month and I can assure you it shows up in every background check around here.
We are sort of hoping when he applies for apartments out there, if he never mentions TN they may confine the search to Nevada or surrounding states.
Dishonest? yes.... but it is what it is.

I took a look at my last background check conducted. They pretty much traced me back to all my residences from 1983 and moving violations from another state in that time frame showed up also.
