When you do get your illegal or labor, drive to your place in a very difficult way the laborer won't easily remember so they don't come burglarize your home within the month. (which is quite common)

One friend of mine had thousands dollars of stuff stolen from his house the day after using these angelic day laborers.

BEWARE!

How is it illegal? How is it different than hiring a babysitter or other people you would pay with cash?

They are independant contractors that are required to file a Schedule C with the IRS at the end of the year and pay taxes. It is no different than a babysitter, working at a flea market (where you are paid in cash) or doing day labor.

IF they are in this country illegally then it's illegal to hire them..

Baby sitters may be contract labor but by federal law you have to with hold social security from their pay and also pay your part..

It that has changed correct me..

I know someone that got into trouble years ago for not doing so.

Now remember we are not talking about the high school girl here that watches you kids on a Sat. night.

Bolded is incorrect, as an independant contractor the babysitter has to pay the Gov't double the normal (~7%) Social Security/Medicare taxes. So they owe 15% plus their normal federal tax bracket to the Feds.

Also, why are you making the assumption that a day laborer is in the country illegally and your babysitter is not?

They almost always are non-citizen independent contractors with hepatitis, TB and all sorts of non screened diseases. (just for starters)

It has nothing to do with being independent contractors.

It is against federal law to knowingly hire an illegal immigrant. That said, the feds don't often (if ever) go after homeowners who hire a laborer or two for the day; they are more interested in regular employers who hire illegals in large numbers. However, that doesn't negate the fact that it is illegal to do so.
