Moving to Vegas, looking to be a poker dealer (already certified but no exp), if not, any type of dealing job. I am from California and all the dealing jobs are saturated. What is the best way to get my foot into the door. I don't mind starting from the bottom (ANY casino job). Any advice, tips or hookups/secrets would be great. Do I just call every single casino job hotline? One cashier said to try Downtown casinos first. Is that true? Thank you for your time.

If you think dealer jobs are saturated in CA they are probably really saturated in Vegas.

Plenty of jobs available at each location. I know a dealer at Bally's, he started working at the smaller casinos then moved up to Bally's. Look at each locations' website and you will find a current job opening list.

You go to the casino and ask the pit boss who to see for an audition. Some casinos only do them certain days/times, while others will do them anytime.

You'll find that the crappy downtown casinos will be the easiest to get into, as they have constant turnover because everyone wants to move up to better tipping locations. Most of the dealers coming out of the schools in Vegas start out in the El Cortez, Vegas Club, or some of the other low-buck casinos.

When my ex-wife went to school to deal blackjack in 94, she got lucky and got right into Sams Town because she was very good, the teacher knew some people there, and they were about to open their big expansion at the time. Even though Sams Town isn't exactly the "big time", it was a huge step up from the "players puking on the dollar blackjack table" casinos....lol. She moved up to Sunset Station when they opened, then went to the Venetian when they opened. As far as I know, she's still there.

BTW- be prepared to live on mac and cheese when you're starting out. You'll be making $6/hour plus tips, and your tips might be in the $25/shift range at the starter houses.

Bob

Just a note i worked at the bellagio and how it worked their was if you where not an employee you where directed to the human resources department to apply for employment .The employees already employed at other departments would get auditions without reapplying to that job.
