A friend from CA is coming the first week of October, and since I've only been living here (Sun City Aliante) for less than 6 months I need advice as to best show off Vegas. Her idea of sightseeing is inside casinos (the strip) -- so Hoover dam, etc., is out.

I'm planning on Jersey Boys and perhaps Love. So I need to know:

which casino is it that has the fabulous flowers?

which casino can we go to that has lunch/dinner for $30 a person?

I plan on one Saturday night at Fremont street -- where can we park that isnt scary -- that Fitz parking lot is iffy at night, and thats the only place I've ever parked before.

do any casinos still have "lounge shows/bands" for the price of a drink or a low cover charge?

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I love living here but have only been to the strip three times since I've bought my home. So any advice will be well received . . . thanks!

Regarding the flowers, I believe you are referring to Bellagio's indoor garden.

I would say any casino can fill your restaurant requirement. I took my family to the Grand Cafe at Red Rock Monday night, the total for 7 of us including tip was $120 and the food was terrific. You could go to any of the chains, but I like going to the cafes (not the buffets) and be well under the $30/person.

On downtown parking, I've always parked at Binions without any issue.

I haven't been to any lounge shows here so I can't comment, my guess would be if there is one it would be in a smaller non-strip casino.

I'm wholly unqualified to answer your questions, but what the heck:

You mean the glass flowers in the Bellagio lobby? Or maybe the botanical gardens there?

All of them. Ok, that wasn't a very useful answer. Your question is too broad. $30 would cover one of the top buffets (Paris, Bellagio). $10 more and you could have the steak dinner special at The Palm in the Forum Shops. Could you maybe narrow it down a little, tell us what kind of cusine you like? French, Italian, Japanese, California, Steakhouse, seafood??? If you can't decide, maybe you should go to a buffet.

How about the Golden Nugget valet, or their self-park if you have something against using valet parking.

Let's see, it cost me $50 to get into Spearmint Rhino but that included two drinks...oh wait, that wasn't the kind of show you were looking for.

The answer to your question is yes. You might want to check out a flair bar, they can be fun, esp. if you've never been to one before. TI, Harrah's, and Caesars all have pretty good flair bars.

The Bellagio has all of the above. The Golden Nugget is always a good place to park, but what's wrong with the public parking garage on Fremont that you enter off 4th?

BTW: What's with the $30.00 lunch? That's expensive. Best lunch on the Strip is at Nordstroms in the Fashion Show...and it looks expensive...or if you must, you could spend $30.00 on lunch after you buy a new expensive outfit. http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/6018379/...s_classic_cafe

But best location for lunch in Las Vegas is Marche Bacchus on the lake in Desert Shores. Marche Bacchus - French Bistro & Wine Market

the Bellagio, eh? I'll check out their website, i think they're also the casino that has the dancing waters.

But whats a flair bar? is that where the bartenders juggle bottles? That would be great fun. She'd love that!

I was thinking buffet -- should have made myself clear. Do they also serve champagne with the buffet? I honestly thought the buffets were much more expensive, so thanks.

I dont know why I never thought of valet parking at Fremont street. i always use it at the station casinos -- duh!

has anyone ever done the gondola thing? Is it a great experience or kinda cheesy? What about Coyote ugly? Would two 60-something ladies enjoy a drink there? or would we be uncomfortable.

thanks again . . .

flair bar - definitely go to Harrah's - evening outside in the carnival court.. it is kind of loud though...

buffet - don't know about the champagne, but that is usually brunch buffets... in my opinion, aladdin spice market is the best for the money (about $30 each)... you could also try the wynn's but im sure its more expensive

Correct on the Bellagio, just make sure you say the "Fountains" I've never heard anyone say dancing waters in the 2 years I've lived here; although, my kids call it the "giant boom".

About the buffets, Spice Market is good. I haven't eaten at Wynn or any of the other strip buffets so I can't comment; however, I've eaten at the Stations buffets and they're good. I haven't seen anyone order champagne at a buffet; however, when my brother was in town 2 weeks ago, we went to Aliante and got 2 bottles of wine. The server has to order it at the bar outside the buffet so they take your payment separately when you order. They are pricey, but of course you can find a 2-1 coupon everyday in the R-J for the Stations.

I haven't taken a ride on the gondola. Coyote Ugly is like any other night club where it gets crowded as the night goes on and the overwhelming majority are 21-30 years old, if you like crowds and loud music then it would be good for you.

"Great" would be too strong a word, as would "cheesy". It's not bad, and not horribly expensive. The pace is slow and the gondoliers actually sing, like in Venice (at least ours did). There are worse things you can spend money on, and not too many other places you can do this (unless you want to fly to Italy).

One thing I will never forget about the gondolas: I was listening to ESPN Radio one day and the show hosts asked hotel/casino employees to call in and relate the dumbest thing a tourist had ever asked them. A Venetian employee said that he was asked if the gondola went to the airport.

One of the best (and biggest) buffets in town is at the M Resort south of the Strip. Lunch is a particular bargain at $14.99.
